Make you bring a doctors note if you call in sick? What about call a chief pilot, no matter the time of day/night, to tell them you just called in sick!!!
What about discipline you for calling in sick more than 3 times in a 6 month period!
Just wondering why ASA has such rules?!?

There is nothing in the contract, or the SPs that say that you have to bring in a doctors note. It does state somewhere in the SPs that at their option the company may ask for evidence that you were sick. However, since part 61 states that you MUST ground yourself if you are not fit to fly, the company can't touch you for missing trips sick, regardless of what the "attendance policy" says. They can make you sign all their little letters, but if they were to terminate you for it, all it would take is a call to the FSDO.

I've seen this happen in our sheriff's department that they don't terminate you for arresting the sheriff's cousin, because you were just doing your job. the sheriff could face legal action if he/she did so, but the next time you come in with dirt on your shoes and cruiser because you just chased a criminal through a field, the sheriff terminates you on the spot for not cleaning your shoes/cruiser. I don't know if the airline unions keep this from happening or what, but I know this political crap happens in police work. Lets say you took those three days off and management is upset becuase you caused three separate schedule changes and caused them grief and the next time your shirt isn't tucked in properly or your appearance is not to the company standard and they terminate you for that... I hope that these types of politics aren't in aviation, but they could very well be. Watch yourself and CYA!

I'm expecting a note in my box when I go back tomorrow for a 3 in 6 attendance "violation", and if I call in any time before next April I'll earn another letter.

Guess I better stock up on those vitamins.

Yeah, dont call in sick. God knows your expected to be perfectly healthy when you work 13 to 14 hour days back to back to back with poor quality sleep and unhealty, fatty foods. Then you get in a germ tube where the cockpit is never cleaned (in the case of PSA). Yeah, your going to hell for getting a cold.

What a waste of life this job is.

Had to sign the letter awhile back. When I did, I saw I had 4 occurences, one of them being too fatigued to fly. It's called intimidation. Don't fall for it.

Hoser

Don't fall for it, and don't worry about it. If you are sick or fatigued call in sick. Sign the paper and press on. 14 CFR Part 67

If that's true that's ridiculous.

If you're chief pilot has a pair, he wont stand for this.

Talk to your union reps, file a grievance. Do everything, not nothing.

Good luck.

The same crap is happening at Mesaba. The schedule beats you to h*ll (often times NO lunch break in the SAAB), but it's the pilot's fault if you get sick or fatigued. BAD PILOT!!! You must be living a faulty life if you actually get sick!

Sounds like somebody is getting desperate to keep pilots at work. Why don't those numbskulls hire some pilots... errr.... 200 hour gear swingers.

I've NEVER called the CP when I've called in sick and I've never been reprimanded. Crew scheduling just regurgitates that to everyone.

As far as disciplining you for calling in over a 6 month period....I haven't actually looked into this but I would be willing to suspect that if fought in a court, you may win the battle. Can you imagine trying to explain to the FAA that you forced a pilot to fly when you are sick or face resignation? This is an old rule written back with George and John were here and still stands. Total B.S.

Jerry needs to come into the G.O. with a firehose on the 8th floor and clean it out. Why are we still being run by old school bankrupt DL washouts and those still around from G & J? Our corporate culture needs to be totally revamped with new blood & not someone from a bankrupt carrier.

Congratulations!

I'm nominating this for Best FlightInfo Statement Of The Month.

We all know that at ASA, SP's are only used by dirtbag mismanagement to F*%k the employees as they see fit. They certainly never abide by them and when you call them on it you get the runaround because "that's the way we've always done it". This company needs an enema!!! It's past due to rid ASA of the "old school" redneck mentality and get with the 21st century. They should be running things like an airline not some two plane hillbilly cropdusting operation. Sorry, I got off on a tangent here but I'm disgusted more everyday by the way things are (mis)managed. When will they learn....run things efficiently and take care of your employees and they will take care of you?

Had the meeting with Kim 2 months ago to "sign the letter" Several people have told me since that I should have gone to the meeting with an ALPA rep and the letter would have disappeared. Is this true? How do I schedule/contact a rep for next time?

Never called in sick here until march of this year, but did in April/May also due to an injury. I got the old "I'm sure you realize that it is important for our pilots to come to work" speech. Well Duh!!
