Bottom line is that if you are considering a regional, as many who are reading this are, Compass might not be such a bad bet.

Just don't bet on there being a back door into mainline. All told Compass might not be that bad of a place to work if there were some seniority integrity. An off the street pilot at Compass has all the job security risks of a mainline pilot but with none of the associated benefits. Anyone should be able to identify this as a foolish choice. Nice recruiting line though.

Not recruiting; this career is probably a foolish choice. As an XJ pilot I'm sure that you know all about job security risks, as do thousands at NWA, DAL, USAir, AMR ...

Not a completly correct statement. If NWA brings a guy up from Compass they will undoubtably be able to do short coarse training if there is fleet commonality. This is a benefit for mainline. Meanwhile at Compass they just lost a captain so now they have to upgrade a first officer and hire a newhire to fill the vacant first officer seat. End result on the bottom line from NW hiring out of Compass is 2.5 training cycles. If NW would have hired off of the street there would have been only one training cycle.
That's correct but, it's only a .5 training event at mainline. I doubt they care what happens at compass. How many training events have some of the Mesaba pilots been through in the past few months?

Why would NWA start up compass at the expense out of their pockets when they have 9e and xj that can do it so much cheaper. I know they feel like they owe it to the pilot group, ha right. I see compass spinning up for only one reason that would make any sense. To sell it off, planes and pilot group to the highest bider for their come out of BK fund. Remember NWA wants out of regional flying. It's goal is to manage or enslave two regional carriers to do their regional flying. Got to keep your see on the ball.

What does mainline care about Airlink training costs? Well being that training expenses are part of the ASA, which are pass through costs to NWA. They do end up paying for them with a % percent override.

Tank Commander,

You have broken the code. They intend to build up Compass and sell it like they did with the Pinnacle IPO, which was very profitable for them. NWA made no secret of these intentions during negotiations, and protections were negotiated for the Compass pilot group in the event of such sale. I don't think it will happen before Chapter 11 exit, though, because NWA is required to be operating ten 77-110 seat jets at mainline before Compass can be sold.
