do you still get vertigo ?

I got it tonight, felt like I was falling back out of my seat and banking steep turn to the right. Never climbed once I got it, and never turned to the right, only left turns, and descents to landing on a GPS approach. Kept all the stuff pegged though, just fly the plane. It sucks. Can it kind of be described as a fear or something.

The dude, look at your post. Where do you get off by telling someone that you have never met to get off drugs on a public message board. I know what vertigo is, my post is regard to after many hours of flying " I still feel like I'm landing even though I've been off the plane. I know people " pilots" whom I've flown with get vertigo, and it's not fun, it usually occurs after long hours in the aircraft, and it is through no fault of the pilots flying the aircraft. Some people feel it, while others do not.

I used to get it really bad when I was doing my inst. triaining. Especially in actual. For me, I just got used to it. I now get it just briefly, a few seconds is all. If its really smooth in IMC or night time and you get one of those long continous 270 degree turns on departure or something similar.

You get better at dealing with it and it does get less and less the more you fly. It did with me anyway.

What you are describing is a mild kinesthetic illusion. Not vertigo as it applies to instrument flying. Please don't take offense to this but you do not know what vertigo or spatial disorientation is.

To the original poster: Most new instrument pilots have an experience or two with this, usually just a case of the leans. After time you will adjust to it completely and shouldn't have an issue with it. If this continues to be an issue, for more than a couple off times, then there are possibly other things going on involving your health. A recent cold or allergy can cause long-term irritation and swelling of the tissue surrounding your eustachian tube, which can irritate certain nerves, resulting in mild vertigo. There are also several medical conditions that can cause you problems. If it continues, see an ENT.

Hello everyone, I'm not taking offense, but I need to set the record straight. First of all I apologize if I posted the wrong thing. I do know highly what vertigo is and spatial disorientation is. I just buried my boyfriend on March 14th, and he taught me alot. But I really do know what vertigo is and spatial disorientation is. I just never " experienced" Vertigo. My boyfriend bruce was a pilot and very encouraging. he loved to fly, he loved it.

He did anything for anyone in need. Bruce died on a layover in Houston, recently, so I'm not trying to be wise with anyone, but he loved to fly, and I'm a flight attendant, I try to learn. He made his last flight home, by me, on Continental on March 13th, his body came home at 736pm. He came from Iah to FLL. He wants to encourage everyone to do what is most happy for them.

By the way, I am not on drugs. Pathetic!

Funny as it sounds, I actually seem to get vertigo less when I can't see anything outside. You can put me under a hood or in actual, and I won't get the leans too easily.

What really gets me good though is when I'm doing a night instrument training flight in VMC with a student. The student is under the hood of course, but I'm going back and forth from looking outside (for traffic/terrain) to looking at the instrument panel. That can cause a bit of a coriolis illusion if you're facing away from the city lights, which can be significant as there is a whole lot of nothing out here at night where I teach. Add that in with a little false horizon illusion from a highway or faint mountain range in the distance, and you've got a good case of vertigo. There have been times where I've had to stay on the gauges with my student for a short time while I got my own gyros untumbled.

Yes, I still get it. It seems to get less prevelant with time and I agree with Unreal that for me it happens when there are unusual visual cues and not when there are no visual cues. One that gets me is flying level into a rising overcast. It's very difficult to not feel like I'm descending. Or if just below the tops and you can see some things, but nothing usefull can throw me sometimes.

The answer is to pay attention to the instruments and fight the urge to react to your sensations. Also an autopilot if available is your friend.

1. Everyone is subject to getting the leans or mild disorientation every now and then, regardless of experience. A simple turn of the head the wrong way can do it.
2. If you are experiencing it, tell the other pilot regardless of whether you're actually controlling the aircraft or not.
3. Transfer control, if need be.
4. Engage the autopilot, if need be.
5. Cross-check and trust your instruments, not you fanny.

It ain't gonna happen cause I really think you are nutz and should be on medication. I seem to remember the chat room over at CAAM when you flipped out and were banned for a couple of days. The mood swings you have shown are worse than a pregnant women combined with a woman going through menopause. Actions like that combined with general F/A airhead-ness.....wow....maybe a canidate for shock therapy.

I would personally like you to show any proof that you have. Have you been to my home? Do you pay my rent? Do you clean my home? I'm not going through menopause, do you pay 1,700 dollars a month in rent? Plus expenses?

I came on here innocently one night to talk about vertigo, which most people do exerience now and then, even NON FLYING PEOPLE. >Look at your signature Line, "hitting on your girlfriend" not very nice, is it?

Safety is very important to me, obviously not to you sir, you can look my medical, I do have one with the FAA, but right now, I'm not an airhead flight attendant that you think I am, I gave up flying for a while to straighten things out since my finacee died on a layover.
