This would make a great story if we found out that Chevrolet commissioned the commercial posing as a Ford then released it
on the web.

No, my brother said that they were looking for ads and that these two were developed by an ad agency. I guess it is just a very different type of humor in Europe. I cannot remember what he said about the cat; whether it was real or not. I have a hard time believing that a sun roof could cut off a cat's head, but who knows!
