To fly as a copilot in an aircraft requiring a type rating in Canada? Can you reference the reg that does or doesn't require it?

1. Is the aircraft C- or N- registered?

2. What type of operation?

Have you seen FAR 61.55 (a)(3) "The Appropriate pilot type rating for the aircraft unless the flight will be conducted as domestic flight operations within United States airspace"

So, since you plan to fly in Canada, which is outside US airspace, you will need a type rating

Outside the US, every other country requires that both pilots be typed, so if you want to go on Canadian regs, yes, you need a type

The only way you couldn't be required to have a type is in a "N" registered aircraft is if it operates in the US! But if you fly into Canada or Mexico/LA/SA it is now required by THIER gov't not OURS to be typed (SIC/PIC) in the A/C...so yes international IT IS REQUIRED...because of all the reasons specified above!
