I know this has been posted before, but I must ask.

I have 4600 hr, 1500hrs pic turbine, 3500 hrs turbine (3400 hrs jet). I have a 4 year degree in Aviation Management. I have been at Comair for 6 years. I also have one letter from a SWA pilot. I just turned 28.

I am starting at HPA on Jan 5 to get my 737 type. I should have the type on Jan 18th.

My second question is should I wait the 6 days to put my app on file with the 737 type or should I do it on the 12th?

I am just a little nervous about getting on at SWA because of all of the highly qualified people on the street. I know that i have the personality to be at SWA. I just want to make myself as qualified as possible. I would LUV to be at SWA! Plus any place that has the 1 2 3 rule is the place for me!

Thanks for any replys

Yes, you have a chance at SWA my future SWAPA union brother. Just stay positive and be yourself. Its such an important concept but hard to do - be you!!!

Updateable application

Capt `Butt',

Another factor in your favor is that, from what I have read, you will be able to go online anytime after 12Jan04 and update your application with new times figures, medical dates, B-737 Type Rating, etc. This will continuously improve your scoring for an interview.

God Speed & have fun in type school,

:D Tweek:p

What about military?

Us military fighter types just don't accumulate hours like our civilian counterparts. Those of us flying "pointy noses" will usually only get a few hundred hours per year over about 5 years of flying. The average F-18/F-14/AV-8B/F-16/F-15 guy after one tour in the military has roughly 1500-2500 hours of flight time. So my question is, with around 2300TT, 1700 Turbine and 1400 Trubine PIC, all military, 737 type and ATP, are we fighter types going to fall short of the competitive numbers needed to get called for an interview at SWA? Or have the HR folks taken into consideration what the typical military pilot gets in flight time and compensates somehow? Any answers appreciated and by the way, please don't let this degenerate into a civilian vs military discussioin. Just pointing out the fact that a fighter pilot in the armed services doesn't get as much flight time as many civilians in the same timeframe. Thanks in advance.

It seems from what I've seen that SWA makes a solid attempt to hire a cross section of applicants. They do IMHO show some favoritism to the fast movers, especially since concepts like "energy management" and plane old stick and rudder skills are so important to the con-ops. Maybe they've changed the way they do things from the Cindy Hamilton days, but it seems that some applications could float to the top of the pile.... Where'd you get your type? If it's HPA and you had a good relationship with them, stay in touch, they can be a valuable advocate. What's the lates interview success rate? Obviously if you have an interview scheduled, you'd hope it's high, if you don't, you'd hope it's low (makes you move up quicker...)

In December, Rebekah from SWA People department made it sound like once you meet the minimums posted on the web site you were competitive. The rest of the competitive screen would be on other factors such as leadership (PIC, IP, Check Airman, etc) and career progression (Maintaining currency in a C-172 wasn't going to help you much). So I would think that a most military applicants would be very competitive due to the fact that most of us held all of the leadership rolls in the aircraft.

Just my 0.02

bozt45,

I was on a layover in Omaha and ran into a former Marine F-18 guy who had 1800TT when he was hired...I think he said he was in the April 03 class.

Capn,

Not only do you have a chance, personally your exactly what we hope for.

I wouldn't be suprised if you are one of the early interviews.

Good luck and please keep us informed.

Another example of how Southwest saves money. They only get 1 hotel room for the whole crew. The only draw back is when the flight attendants are all guys.

That why we only tell certain ones what 1-2-3 really is.:D

1-2-3 Rule

The 1-2-3 Rule.....
Within a 1 day period, the FO is only allowed to have sex with 2 FA's, the Captain is allowed 3 FA's.

All in good humor...no offense to anyone!
