U.S. Rep. Mica says Delta/Northwest merger likely to be approved

Wed May 14, 2008 2:55pm EDT

WASHINGTON, May 14 (Reuters) - A merger bid between Delta Air Lines (DAL.N: Quote, Profile, Research) and Northwest Airlines (NWA.N: Quote, Profile, Research) is likely to be approved by the U.S. government, an influential lawmaker on aviation affairs in the House of Representatives said on Wednesday.
Rep. John Mica, a Florida Republican and former chairman of the House aviation subcommittee, told a hearing on the merger proposal that the deal to create the world's biggest airline did not appear anti-competitive.
Mica disagreed with Democratic colleagues who expressed skepticism with the plan.
Mica said it was likely "this merger will be granted."

Bye Bye--General Lee

I thought it was already approved

Not by the DOJ. It looks like it has cleared some Congressional and Senate hurdles, but not the DOJ yet.
