only half that number is in cash, the rest in USAir stock. If the merger works, USAir stock will go up in the long run. If this merger doesn't work, USAir stock could end up at zero. So it depends on how well you think this merger will work.

This merger would also saddle the "new Delta" with $8B in additional debt, which is not such a good start for a new airline. OTOH, a stand alone DAL would have less than half the debt load and most likely a greater chance for increased share holder value.

You know, I'm having a hard time what uniform looks more nerdy. The Mesa windbreakers you mention in your post. Or the double-breasted "Admiral Nemo" uniform jackets complete with name plate and uniform wings with 10 ft wingspans that you guys wear . Help me out here, will ya'?

PHXFLYR:cool:

I thought the double-breasted jacket was instituted because some were tired of seeing pilots walking around with their jackets unbuttoned. Solution, select a jacket that you really can't walk around with unbuttoned.

DL doesn't seem to have much control over this.

I would not bet on this going through kids! USA Today has an article today saying that Parker will not fight over the Delta deal.

"Parker said he is not prepared to fight Delta's management in bankruptcy court by submitting a merger plan to the judge without the backing of Delta officials."

I flew Gerald to DC the other day and he said there is no way that this will happen. Gerald will not even talk to the USAir management, he was however going to DC to meet with Senators and Congressional members to stop this merger from happening!

"Delta Air Lines Inc. Chief Executive Officer Gerald Grinstein said the bankrupt carrier's board will formally consider US Airways Group Inc.'s $8.53 billion takeover bid."

Hmmm...what part of your so-called "NO" am I not understanding?

Maybe Grinstein is like a lot of girls I've met..."No", means "Yes"?

They have to formally consider the offer. You can't formally reject it unless you have formally considered it.

Even if this offer is going nowhere (and there are good reasons to think it's not), can Delta survive as a stand alone carrier in its present scale? Or do they need to seek a merger partner?
