UPDATE 2-Delta bankruptcy judge on medical leave
Mon Jan 9, 2006 12:14 PM ET
(Adds new judge, background)
NEW YORK, Jan 9 (Reuters) - The federal judge presiding over Delta Air Lines Inc. (DALRQ.PK: Quote, Profile, Research) bankruptcy has taken medical leave for two months, and the case was reassigned to her colleague Judge Adlai Hardin, a court official said on Monday.
Judge Prudence Carter Beatty notified the clerk's office for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York last week that she would need to take medical leave, a court official said.
A spokeswoman for the airline said, "We anticipate a seamless transition and look forward to continuing with our court supervised restructuring."
Delta, the No. 3 U.S. carrier, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in September. The Atlanta-based airline has said it needs $3 billion in revenue hikes and cost savings to survive.
According to Delta's bankruptcy Web site, a hearing in Beatty's courtroom was scheduled for Jan. 19.
Hardin was named a federal bankruptcy judge in 1995. Prior to his appointment, he was a partner in the New York firm of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy.
Bye Bye--General Lee
PS--I think we have to have an agreement by March 22 via arbitrators if we don't get everything negotiated, but Judge Beatty may be back by then.
