sked for 1/16/03. If not any news as to mil charters, new destinations, dc-10s staying longer etc. Thanks!

Yes.

A good friend of mine was about 15-20 from the bottom and is now out of work. I had heard they were furloughing about 40-45. Not sure if all 45 took place, but there were at least 15-20.

I think 20 were furloughed shortly after the September 11th attacks. They were called back in May 2002 and furloughed again on 1/16/03.

Bummer. :(

Jim,

What do you think is the reason for furloughs? I'm curious because it doesn't seem like Hawaiian is cutting services significantly interisland, just getting rid of DC-10's and that alone shouldn't be a factor. It just doesn't make sense that before 9/11 Hawaiian was flying to less destinations and still hiring, and now they fly to more destinations and furloughing. The plan to get rid of DC-10's was around before 9/11, so what gives?! It just doesn't make sense.

Hope you guys are back flying real soon.

Another thing I just thought of... you guys used to turn some of your long-haul DC-10 flights requiring no layover/extra crews. Now, with 767's you can't do that, either. Hope your union sheds some light on this.
