Did Skybus start yet?

We were gettin ready to push in RIC yesterday and one of their flying carrots landed and taxied to the FBO. They said on the radio they're "exercising their airplane" and start on the 22nd to Richmond...or something...

Have you looked at some of the fares? 30$ CMH-RIC, 30$ CMH-BOS. About the most expensive fare i can find is 170$ to the east coast. Looks like most of the service starts the last week of the month.

Sounds a lot like PeoplExpress when they started. You had to pay to check bags, pay for snacks, everything. Pilots also loaded bags, worked gate counters etc. It was the ghetto job of its time. Look at where all the PeoplExpress pilots are now...

Hell, I'd go, but I'd only consider it paid training for Virgin America.

Actually, most if not the majority of People's Express pilots wound up with New York Air and then Continental along with a host of other majors, failed start-ups and carriers that were merged (Piedmont, PSA, etc...).

Actually, most if not the majority of People's Express pilots wound up with New York Air and then Continental along with a host of other majors, failed start-ups and carriers that were merged (Piedmont, PSA, etc...).

That was my point. The PeoplExpress guys who stayed on are all captains at Continental.

A lesson taught to me by one of these former PE to CAL captains was that you should not go chasing major airline job after major airline job based on what you see today. The industry changes so much over a 20-30 year time frame that what is bad now may be great down the road, and what is good now may be bad, or not even exist down the road at some point. He had friends laughing at him for going to PE while they went to Eastern and TWA back in 1984. He was sitting pretty as 75/76 captain for Continental as of 2004. Only one of his friends who were laughing at him were still at a major, a guy who went to TWA and survived the AA takeover.

Are you interested in "jerking gear" at Skybus if a street CA position isn't available for you? You might think they are gonna be big, but you don't sound that interested in working there...

Upgrades are estimated at less than 12 months and upon upgrade, are given 3300 shares. Here's something to chew over regarding pay. "Both positions will transfer to an hourly rate after our operations stabilize" Whatever that means.

Did a CMH turn the other day. Saw a "Spirit of Columbus" Skybus(Orange). It was pulling over in the run-up pad. The pilot was asking ground how they wanted them to go about taxing and the daily routine. There was also another Skybus that was parked on the other side of the terminal that had Nationwide Insurance advertised all over the side. I hope this low wage airline falls on its face!

What about pay during training and hotel accomidations. If they are such low cost, expect your beneifts to be low cost or non-existent thereby effectivly lowering your already low pay. How many guys are tripping overthemself to go fly a bigger a/c.

Well those shares will be worthless when they shutdown in 18 months and esp since you have to have the stock for 2 yrs before cashing it in. Tax deduction maybe, if your lucky.

Thats a new fangled way of saying you will have to work more to get the same pay.
