DFW housing/neighborhoods?

I was wondering if anyone who lives in the DFW area wouldn't mind suggesting some good neighborhoods or communities in which they might live. Some questions I have are.... Is Collin County better than Dallas County or Tarrant County? Which communities might have better public schools and a low crime rate etc...? I have done some research on Arlington, Plano, Frisco and Mckinney.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks ahead of time!

Flower Mound is good...closer to DFW than your list

Frisco, Plano, and McKinney(in order from DFW going east...all good, kinda overpriced because they became popular lately...better housing choices elsewhere for better prices.

Arlington...NO NO NO NO NO...older and starting to go downhill quick.

Go north or east if anything stay away from south...

Grapevine would be a good try.

If you don't mind a drive try 380 between Denton and McKinney...nice new neighborhoods.

Whatever you do...keep your kids out of the Dallas ISD. My wife is a third grade teacher there and it is a real gun-and-knife club. As stated above, North and Northeast of Dallas is the way the area is moving so there are many new neighborhoods and great schools in those areas. Do not go south. Grapevine has great public schools as well as Richardson and Plano (if you don't want to go all the way to Southern Oklahoma (like Allen and Frisco).

Do not live in the Dallas ISD unless you want to send your kids to private school.

Where will you be working? What kind of house do you want? How close do you want to be to your neighbors? Do you have kids in school?

If you have the means, I highly recommend the Park Cities or Preston Hollow.

We lived in Plano for our last 3 yrs in the area. Near Love Field before that. While Plano was a pretty good drive (I'd give myself 1 hr door to gate), it was easy down 121 and will only get better as the construction nightmare improves (in a few years I'm sure). You can't beat the Frisco/Plano area for schools and infrastructure, but Flower Mound and those newer areas close by are nice as well and closer to the dump. Like anywhere you'll be better off spreading out from the center of the metroplex as that's where the new money goes.

I live in Bedford, which is right next to DFW airport, and we have great schools and neighborhoods. Anywhere northwest of DFW is nice.

I have to agree, look North and NW of DFW. Flower Mound, parts of Lewisville, Grapevine and if you can afford it, Coppell, Keller or South Lake.

I'll second CF34-3B1's recommendation of the Keller area (NW Tarrant county). Keller ISD is supposed to be one of the best in the area. I don't know anything about the school's in Southlake...a beautiful area and housing is really nice...can easily find $1.0 mil homes and higher if you can afford that kind of house.

How about a $600-$700 apartment in a good, safe neighborhood? Is that possible in the areas North and NW of Dallas that you guys are talking about?

There are more apartments in Far North Dallas than MILFs driving SUVs. Well, nearly. Check out the Tollroad area north of 635 all the way to Frisco. Generally, anything outside the loop (635) will be less expensive. You might also want to check out some Lofts in the Uptown and Deep Ellum area.

Try to avoid the Seagoville-Balch Springs-Pleasant Grove golden triangle.
