American Eagle is desperate for pilots. They run out of reserves every day before the sun comes up. Management is slow to start upgrading and hiring to fill the gaps.

One recent newhire class had eleven new hires scheduled. Only two showed up.

If you know of someone with a commercial pilot certificate, multi engine have them go to Desperate for Pilots at http://www.airlineapps.com/Intro/Eagle/default.asp

To be considered for an interview with American Eagle, Flight Officer applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

Commercial Pilot Certification with Multi-engine and Instrument ratings
Total fixed wing time to exceed 1000 hours*
Multi-engine fixed wing time in excess of 100 hours*
A current flying job (12 month experience)
Current FAA First Class Medical
IFR Currency
FCC License
Possess the ability to work in the US
Possess the ability to travel in and out of the US to all cities/countries served by American Eagle
Ability to relocate
Ability to work weekends, nights, shifts, holidays, and overnight trips
Minimum age 21
* Flight time requirements are commensurate with experience

...........as if Eagle is the only regional with pilot shortage problems. Actually, they aren't THAT desperate. The have plenty of lineholders to junior man if necessary.........................they'll cover the flying one way or another.

Only if the lineholders answer the phone! :D

Don't do it. Force them to man the system properly. maybe they'll have to jack the pay up a bit to attract talent.

Added: I was checking out airlineapps.com, and for fun was going to enter the system, but they require a SSAN. Even though it's an HTTPS: site, that makes me a bit nervous.

How easy would it be to get ATR in MIA right out of training? What about FO on the CR7 out of training?

You know you want ORD Taco Rocket just like everybody else...:D

It's very hit or miss depending on your class date. They never seem to know what will be available 'til 0805 on day one. That said, CR7 is quite possible, but ATR MIA is unlikely. You'll have a good chance of ATR SJU and you can base transfer as soon as you can hold a vacancy based on seniority.

Good luck.

every base and a/c have been selected for initial hires this year except LAX EMJ. it's a crap shoot.

Mesa is short also, something like 250 pilots short

And the shorter we get, the faster everybody jumps ship

As the sinking continues...

Maybe people are finally fed up with the horrible pay, and they have come to the conclusion that its not worth it.

Who can afford to become a pilot at $150+ an hour for lessons now? All that to make mcdonalds wages; lovely!

Spoke with an AE captain in the summer, he had the same to say. They're hurting for pilots and as I mentioned in another post, are willing to take less than stellar pilots. Just be good with memory and flow items. Stick skills not necessarily required.

Reading a thread like this while being in Section 6 negotiations warms the cockles of my heart.

Supply and demand, baby! Sometimes you're the "cost center" and sometimes you're the "asset base." Maybe the day's coming when pilots are once again considered a valuable asset to an airline...what a concept!

To get your private pilot license at ERAU over the summer, the minimum tuition is $15,000. Which only includes a portion of the flight fees. http://www.erau.edu/db/summer/hs-sunflight_private.html

100LL is $4.00 gal and everyone thinks they need to train on that $200,000 G1000 C172. Make sure you guys get every chance possible to promote the G1000 as the only airplane that will properly train you to become an airline pilot. That way the costs of training will shorten the pilot supply.

Or they may be helping their family out and picking up some much needed extra cash.

That's an interesting point I hadn't considered regarding the price of gas. I suppose it could benefit those of us still paying dues in the future if there's a good gap of time wherer not many newbies are minted.

Hopefully the situations get better at the regionals such that management starts paying what they should and get staffed properly. I hope that soon flights will start to be cancelled on a large scale and people start realizing what these idiots have done.

Actually, when we start hiring at NWA we are going to have to pull the regional FO's and some new pilots out of flight schools. Since the insurance companies will not allow us to drain the regionals of experienced pilots leaving only low time captains and no-time FO's.

As if the insurance companies care or monitor the experience of the pairings now. We see this combination now all the time. I seriously doubt anyone really cares, so long as the FAA's pathetic pairing restrictions are met.

Oh, and NWA hiring draining the regionals -- that's pretty damn funny, there.

We are going to need about 3000 pilots maybe more.

Great news. Would you mind if I take a wait-and-see attitude on it?

As for where those new-hires are going to come from, here's my point:

The MBA's will probably have more heart-burn over NWA hiring their cheapest employees than their most experienced ones, insurance company "wishes" notwithstanding.
