Still a substaniated rumor on the ALPA board, but supposedly the CP's office in ATL announced that 45 are coming back in Oct, and Nov and 110 in December.

That would be all of the FMII furloughees, leaving a total of 1,060 of us still waiting on that magical phone call. I sure hope this is true as it is time for some good news with the majors.

We still have along way to go before all of us are back, but this is a giant step in the right direction! This is the best news I have heard since 9/11. I believe that I will be more excited when I get the call to come back than I was when I was told that I was hired.

That is wonderful news ... the sooner the economy's numbers substantiate a recovery, the sooner the fares will return to levels that allow the legacy carriers to turn a profit.

As a LCC pilot, I for one want the likes of DAL to not only survive but prosper.

IMHO, there will always be a segment of the traveling public that demands what 'full service carriers' can provide.

The marketplace has changed, but I think it's far too early to forecast that the only way to make a buck in this industry is a LC structure.

Great news DAL ...

TK,

I am psyched about that!

But it will be a while before we get back. The 280 guys retiring this month will help I think.

very interesting how the "Major" airline that pays the best, and has the best contract is also the airline that is performing best financially and recalling....

so much for the theory that pilot pay is at the root of the problems the airlines are having.

Best wishes to all you Delta boys for a hastety recall..

Uh, just curious, but is this recall as a result of a grievance settlement? I'd be real surprised if it was due to any increased flying.

Lets hope not.....

From the Company:
Delta will begin recalling 250 pilots starting Oct. 1 who were furloughed as a result of the drop in demand caused by the war in Iraq. Delta plans to complete the recall by the end of 2003, as the company anticipates passenger demand and scheduled capacity will return to planned, pre-war levels by then. After the recall, 1,060 pilots will remain on furlough. Delta regrets the need to furlough any employee, and will continue to focus its efforts on the financial recovery of the company.

From ALPA:
ALPA is pleased that Delta has decided to begin recalls of the pilots who were furloughed during the War in Iraq, with the first group of 45 being recalled on October 1. However, these pilots should never have been furloughed in the first place. We look forward to recall of all of 250 pilots furloughed since April of this year, which management states should occur by the end of the year. We will be going forward with another System Board hearing on October 29 and 30 to challenge any continuation of furloughs allegedly related to the Iraq War and to seek back-pay for all of the pilots furloughed following commencement of the War, including those who are being recalled at this time.

According to Crew Resourses (someone else talked to them), the first 45 will be trained on the 737-200 (no rumor on base). The rest will be unassigned.

Congratulations. I'm looking forward to everyone returning.

I wish you success!

Fantastic news! Congrats to everyone who gets back on with you guys!!!! Finally some really good news on this board!

I don't care why they are recalling them, I'm just glad they are. Hopefully all 1310 will be back soon.

I know we (especially I) have a long time to go yet, but without getting the 250 out of the way I will never go back. We just have to hope with the 200's coming out of the desert, and travel demand at an all time load factor, maybe management has pulled thier heads out of the sand and will start expanding. The retirements have DEFINATELY helped, and maybe the codeshare is starting to pay off.

I know they are not going to pay people to do nothing, so the others will be trained I am pretty sure on something. They could pull reserve over doing nothing.

This was not due to us winning a greivance. That greivance will not be heard until Oct 28-31st. This may be the company's spin to try to get us to drop the greivance, but I don't think that is going to happen. This I think is mainly due to a mass retirement September 1st, and a possible shift to bigger aircraft. We are pulling between 6-8 737-200's out of the desert.

Great news to FMII guys and hopefully by Christmas of 2005 I can join you at Spondivits.

Well good for you then. I was skeptical because conventional wisdom has it that a furlough lasting less than one year is actually more expensive than paying a benched pilot. Maybe AA will watch and change it's mind about furloughing another 1000.

It is more relevant to point out that the "Major" airline that has the most RJ's is the one now recalling mainline pilots...... Congrats on the recalls!

There is no way that this news is anything other than good news for ALL of us....
