I have heard from several at Delta that they are seriously trying to dump ALPA for the Teamsters. Any truth to this?

That would be a baaaaaaaaaaaaaad idea.

Gene Sowell (pres. IBT747) said to me:

"We could ask for more money. But, we aren't going to get it. So why even try?"

No. You need better sources.

Teamsters are horrible compared to ALPA and AFA. They have no clue what the issues are in this business. When I saw my issue of Teamster magazine with Hojets on the front I immediately sent it to file 13......If given the chance I would send them packing in a heartbeat.

To paraphrase Mark Twain; "ALPA is the worst union out there.....except for all the rest!"

Mr. Sowell.....bless his heart. He handles how many airlines now???? His quick fix is to whip out his boilerplate contract and fill in the blanks to put current airline name on it. NOT very impressed with negotiating with him. He's been around for awhile, but definately overworked, not enough resources for what he covers....

It's very easy for a union to give up 50% of your pay, 1/4 of your working conditions and agree to terminate the retirement plan. DALPA sure did.

Could the Teamsters do any worse?

Perhaps its time for a serious change, to have a union that stands by its members.

"Teamsters SUCK."

- A Criminal Organization led by Dick-Weeds with NO resources or "Clues" for Airline Pilots.

"ALPA SUCKS."

- A Legitimate Organization run by numerous Cock-Heads with many resources for Airline Pilots...But, at a significant cost for little return.

"NO Representation" SUCKS.

- You are just F-Ucked. Period.

"In-House Representation" Sucks.

- OR...Maybe it doesn't. 50-50 chance. "Step right up...and Hit the Pony!"

Take your pick. Or, just hammer your "Schwanz" with a 18 oz. Ball-Peen for the next Umpteen years...The end result will be similar.

Who honestly thinks ALPA is better than Teamsters? Where have you been for the last 10 years. Have you flown Teamsters? Or do you just think or have you heard from some dude?

Teamsters
You send national a percentage
ALPA
You send it all, they send back what they think you need.

Teamsters
You vote your contract, you have final say
ALPA
You vote, but Duane has the final say.

Teamsters
You hire any consultant you want, spend as much as you want.
ALPA
You get whom ever DC sends, if they're not too busy.

Whom do you think has more political clout in Washington?

Teamsters are very far from perfect, BUT ALPA is a known evil that repeatly $crews over it's own for perceived short term gain. ALPA is in it for ALPA.

(Emery, RJs, Comair . . .forget it I'm not even going to start.)

That's an impressive number of different penis references in one post. Plus funny.

The union did not give up Delta pilots pay, working conditions or retirement. The Delta pilots did that on their own with a majority vote. I blame my coworkers, not ALPA.

Yes. When compared against the PWAs of all the other major carriers DALPA didn't do too bad. The DAL PWA even stands up well when compared to the PWAs of many solvent carriers.

The harsh reality is that DAL is in BK and a BK carrier can not maintain an industry leading contract.

I agree. Although I didn't support LOA51, the majority of DAL pilots did and I'm not going to whine about. IMO, the best way to improve our condidtion is to let the whiners and the quitters sit on the sidelines while the rest of us get constructively involved in our union so that when we enter section 6 negotiations in 3 years we'll have the best shot possible at once again achieving an industry leading contract.

If you dislike ALPA, you'll love to hate Gene Sowell. The Teamsters are not built to support airline labor contracts.

Could not disagree more. How about the enablers who voted in favor sit on the sidelines and let the no voters give it a shot?

IBT did fine for us... of course we had to make them a deal they couldn't refuse.

IBT works great for pilots if the individual local is run 4 pilots BY pilots.

I've got more positives from IBT membership than ALPA membership in my career thus far... just my experience.

The "enablers" are the majority. How do you intend to have majority follow your lead. I would suggest taking a bigger role, through increased participation, in the running of our union. Otherwise, it's just whining.

Therein lies the problem for Local 747. Throw the bums out!

Which is what we realized... thus deciding to form our OWN local (1108) separate and apart from 747.

No airline division here.

I have done that by volunteering over the past year. And yourself?

Seems like the common theme (not just here but over on the regionals also) is that ALPA sucks but it is the best thing we've got.

Maybe ALPA just needs some overhauling...starting from the top.

When you make up a list on who got screwed by ALPA, PLEASE, PLEASE do not forget TWA!

I think you are right....but it starts at the local level. Believe me, when the LEC reps and the MEC reps know exactly how the rank and file feel about an issue ( in the form of passed resolutions)...that message will be heard loud and clear in Herndon.

You are probably too late for the upcoming ALPA BOD, but it's is never too late to start....get your resolutions ready for the next LEC meeting. There will another ALPA BOD in "xxx" years....( thats a test question for the un-involved)
