Testing of a New Reserves Required Formula
Starting with the March 2011 bid period, a new methodology for calculating reserves required will be tested on eight categories. They are: ATL M88 A/B, NYC 7ER A/B, SEA 330 A/B, and SLC 320 A/B. The new formula is comprised of three variables: (1) the number of scheduled duty periods on a given day, (2) whether the day in question is a weekday or weekend, and (3) whether the bid month is a summer or non-summer month. Additionally, the current rotations in open time and a buffer are applied to determine the reserves required number. The number of reserves available on a given day will now equal the number of unassigned reserve pilots on call for the entire day, without regard to the amount of open time on that day.
The reserve schedule just got a little more busy....or not. I can't tell looking threw the smoke and mirrors.
