Delta Could Detail Regional Framework In Mid-October

Source: Aviation Daily

Delta by mid-October could reach a decision on the structure of its regional carrier network after inviting airlines to bid on flying currently performed by Comair, Republic Airways Holdings subsidiaries Shuttle America and Chautauqua, and Mesa subsidiary Freedom Airlines.
The flying covers up to 143 regional jets. Comair outlined the breakdown of the aircraft, noting the request for proposals covers up to 50 new 76-seat planes, 43 70-seat planes, of which 27 are currently flown by Comair, and 50 jets with 50 seats. Comair also noted it flies some of the 50-seat planes.
Delta, currently in Chapter 11, has affirmed only one regional contract during its restructuring. Security & Exchange Commission documents show SkyWest, which bought Delta's wholly owned subsidiary Atlantic Southeast Airlines (ASA) last year, secured two 15-year contracts, with Delta agreeing that ASA would supply 80% of all Delta Connection departures from Atlanta, as well as 50% of ASA's Delta Connection departures originating from the Atlanta hub(emphasis added).
Mesa's Freedom, which flew 26 50-seat regional jets for Delta as of June 30, split between Orlando and Atlanta, predicts that deal would account for roughly 20% of its consolidated passenger revenues. The carrier has run into obstacles in the startup of a follow-on deal it struck with Delta in March to fly 37-seat Dash 8 turboprops from New York Kennedy. Because of required adjustments for some flight data recorder parameters on those planes, Mesa is temporarily using 19-seat turboprops in some JFK markets.
During the current quarter, Republic subsidiary Chautauqua is slated to fly 39 37-seat and 50-seat jets for Delta, while the company's fleet plan shows 16 70-seat jets in Delta's network in the third quarter. During the second quarter, Delta accounted for about 34% of Republic's passenger revenues.
Delta is the latest U.S. major carrier to offer business up for grabs.
Northwest last year asked regional carriers to bid on flying 126 50- and 76-seat planes in its network but hasn't detailed its selections. Midwest garnered more proposals than it solicited for its RFP covering up to 25 50-seat regional jets.
Continental tapped Republic to fly 44 planes with 50 seats to backfill 69 jets flown by ExpressJet that are exiting its regional fleet. Continental also asked airlines to bid on flying 24 large turboprops, and is continuing to examine those possibilities.
Comair is trying to preserve tentative deals it reached with pilots and mechanics as it struggles to win necessary reductions from flight attendants.
Airline management claims it has lost out on deals with Northwest and Continental after those airlines wanted to wait until Comair restructured its costs. The deadline for carriers to submit bids to Delta is Sept. 18. -

Just curious, what do you know about Freedom? Some facts to back up your statement?

Maybe you should do some homework on why Freedom was started. Find your own facts and you will be enlightened.

95.5% completion so far this month. Worst of all DCI carriers.

Maybe YOU should do your homework the original freedumb airlines was started by JO to whipsaw the pilots it worked. For evidence look no further than the current contract. That freedumb was dissolved and all the pilots were brought back on the same ALPA seniority list. Freedum was than restarted to do the flying for delta because of scope reasons (much like chautauqua has republic and shuttle America) Most of the guys at the current Freedom had no choice and were some of the most outspoken against the original freedom. In fact i don't believe there are any original freedom guys (A-lister) on the current Freedom certificate unless they are management types. Yeah maybe their performance sucks and that why they should get the boot, but before you tell people to do their homework on an issue you might want to be damn sure you've done your homework.

He who doth protest too much.......... All I said was do your homework.

BTW, the current Freedom was started to get around what? Scope? Who's scope? DAL? How do the DAL guys feel about that? That somehow makes them better in your eyes?

Questions........questions..........

Again............do your homework..........

Regardless, GoOJet, Freedumb, Shuttle were all started so that some underpaid group of people could underbid another groups flying!

Delta should get rid of freedom, Since freedumb couldn't deliver the mighty dashes they promised, they are now running b-1900's out of jfk. 1hr and 30 min taxi last nite in jfk, bet that was fun on the 1900 that was in front of us!!!

It sucks you guys only get historical block time. We were over block by 1hr and 10 mins(1 flight leg) yesterday I can't imagine how pissed I would be if I knew that I wasn't getting paid for it.

I know a guy at Freedom based in MCO that can't speak English let alone fly an airplane. Can't wait until he's a captain. ROA anyone?
