Gee...this sounds familiar. Just replace Northwest and Delta with TWA and American....what's not to like?
Apples to oranges.
No one is asking the NWA pilots to surrender integration protections. Your contract is intact.
LOA19 was an economic package, negotiated by the exclusive leverage Delta pilots brought to the table.
If you want to work towards gaining parity, then you will have to negotiate it. The best road forward is a joint collective bargaining agreement.
You've already missed "peak leverage", because your MEC made the critical mistake of assuming there was no timeline for getting it done with the TFA.
Back in February and March I was posting that there was no time for the traditional Huff and Puff of SLI negotiations. I said time was short. By mid march I said the deal was dead. Guess what, it was dead. You let the opportunity pass you by. You over played your hand. Your next play was to encourage management to pressure us into "expedited arbitration", whatever that means. Sorry buddy, but that dog don't hunt.
At the end of the day, the Delta pilots would not squander an opportunity to get contractual gains and equity because we had to sit on our hands while your MEC could not committ to rapidly concluding a negotiated SLI.
Where do we go from here? I suspect you will thrash around, blame others, light your hair on fire for a bit, but don't take too long. Because once again, there is a timeline for getting back to work and achieving a suitable joint collective bargaining agreement.
If you decide that the best course of action is to continue to light your hair on fire and blame others, don't come whining on FI about how you were left out in the cold, when in reality you allowed opportunity to once again pass you by.
The Delta pilots want to get together and negotiate a joint collective bargaining agreement ASAP. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to get on board and start negotiating, because not doing so will only result in being left out in the cold again, but if that's your choice again, I'll respect it.
