How in the world does any pilot coming onto the list below you affect your pay and working conditions?
In exactly they way that the same thing would affect you plus a few other very significant ways (read again what ~~~^~~~ said).
The key is retention of the seniority number. That pilot will not impact directly those above him but will deprive those below him of potential promotions and reduce their quality of life. That would not be a problem, except for the fact that he is not really an ASA pilot, he's a Delta pilot (number retention is the key) and will walk away as soon as he can.
In the union, that foreign pilot will gain a vote, may be elected to office and could materially impact the relationshp between management and the union. That too would be fine except, he is really a pilot at another airline whose interests are demonstrably in conflict with those of ASA pilots (to date). Potentially, he could reak havoc if he's there long enough.
Sort of like importing a Japanese Officer on the Admiral's staff in the USNavy, while the war is in progress. Not a smart move although the Japanese Officer may himself be a fine gentleman. One cannot have allegiance to two flags at the same time.
