No big surprise here but the ball is rolling. Pay cuts suck.

ATLANTA - Delta Air Lines Inc. pilots approved an agreement Wednesday with the bankrupt carrier that calls for $280 million in annual concessions, including an initial 14 percent pay cut, the union said.

The vote by the Atlanta-based airline's rank-and-file pilots was 61 percent in favor, the union said in a memo to pilots.

No more pay cuts. That 14% pay cut was the SAME pay cut we had last December, but now permanent. We will actually get pay raises starting Jan 07. We will also get large chunks of money via the $650 million in pension payments (divided into 6000 pilots) plus an additional $2.1 billion in equity, which at 20 cents to the dollar would really equal around $420 million, which divided by 6000 pilots could equal an additional $70,000 each before taxes. Add to that a 9% addition to a DC plan for each paycheck, in our own names, added to the 2% company matching on our 401Ks, makes it not too bad. To sum it up, we should get about $160,000 in cash, and extra 9% for a DC plan, and limits on RJs that needed a small first class section anyway. Not bad.

So Jen, sounds like you like the deal you got.

Are we to understand after all your blowhard speeches that you ended up voting yes?

It was 10% over what was needed. It don't take mo than 50.1% to get r dun.

That is not what our ALPA financial analysts thought. And if there is a little too much, that should be a cushion for any Iran War or other unforseen problem.

The question is "Did you vote yes?"

Yes, in the end I took the emotion out of it and looked at the deal. I saw that the people who may want to come back (estimated at 1 in 4) will probably come back (we are very short in a few categories). The scope deal was not bad, and the extra seats will allow for more revenue, and yet at the same time we established 100 seat rates. The pension replacement will be good for most, and the work rules were not touched. We get some automatic raises and a chance for even larger ones. The contract length is short, and overall it is better than most other TAs. YES, I voted Yes.

I don't post a lot, but I do check the site almost on a daily basis. I do read your posts(well most of them since you post on pretty much every thread). For the last months its been nothing but a "no way in hell" will I or the Delta pilot group pass the TA attitude from you. Now you've earned a spot along with Fag'Angelo on my ignore list. I got so sick of seeing the same post from you regarding the TA and your opinion for months and now you come back and say that you voted for it....whatever.

Yeah, it's official now. General Lee has been neutered. 7000 posts and it's all been a waste of time. The best part is I called it back in March.. http://forums.flightinfo.com/showthread.php?t=74079&page=2&highlight=buffy

General Lee,

I, for one, appreciate your honesty. Thank you. Hopefully for all of us, the light in the end of the tunnel will start to shine.

I am glad you think so. I looked at the deal and actually voted the way I thought would be best. Emotions can take hold of anyone, and I saw that most areas were covered adequately, including eventual return of our furloughed pilots. Most of them will not accept recall because of their status at other airlines, and the others will come back. Scope was increased by 6 seats, and regardless of the size of the plane, it really only equals 6 seats. If they chose to furlough, those 6 seats, which have to be first class seats, will go away, costing them $90 million a year. That will deter them.

Anyway, I don't have to explain anymore to you.

Nice work! (Insert sarcasm here...) I can't wait until DAL comes back in 6
months and ask for more and you guys cave again. CHQ is already pushing
you off of Concourse B and the rumor is that all of ASA's 705s will be parking
on B due to the lack of space on C and D.

Does this mean you guys are going to taxi slower to make up the 14%?

This new TA isn't gonna put a dent into Delta's bleeding!! They will be back for money!!! This looks just like the US Airways Show!!

So are the tax payers gonna fund this unfunded 650 million???

Isn't there some dispute between the PBGC and the BK court just where this money will end up?

I can definitly say that I am a little more than dissapointed in you and your co-workers. Where does the chipping away by managment stop?

50 Seats ......then 70 seat ......then 76 seats......then 100 seats

Talk the talk.....but what about walk the walk. I guess thats is a thing of yesteryear.

I may not work at Delta but the contract will effect every last one of us.

I can tell you that close to all of the FOs here would not give up on scope, and that is because it is outsourcing their own jobs.
General Lee said:
Every DL FO and half the Captains will vote NO to anything larger than 70 seats, and may allow some additional 70 seaters to replace some 50 seaters. Bank on it. NO TA will pass with anything larger than 70 seats.
General Lee said:
I would bet a TA allowing larger RJs won't pass with the current DL pilot group. All we need is 50.1% to say NO, and we would either go back to the table or shut it down. (think all of the FOs plus half of the captains= more than 50%)
I won't vote YES for any TA allowing scope erosion. Nope.
Wow... didn't expect this

YES?! YGTBSM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going to say I told you so about Delta pilots caving. And they will continue to cave. This isn't the last concession...any bets on when the next one will take place? I say by October this year.

Aren't you a furloughed UAL pilot. The same one who used to spout all his drivel all over the AOL message boards?? I see some things never change!

General Lee,

You are a liar and a hypocrite.

Period.

You are a complete a$$. If you recall, GL and others expected the TA to be a lot WORSE than it was. Are you telling me that people can't change their minds based on new facts? Seriously, if you think so then you are an idiot. Don't let your emotions rule your life - GL doesn't and I respect that. The TA turned out to be a better situation than previously thought and, when combined with a long-term perspective, it was better in the long-term to vote for the TA.

This TA situation turned out better than the original expectation (pre details). Let's hope DAL survives the rising oil prices so that it can restructure and repair itself. It sounds like this TA will help to build investor/creditor confidence that could only benefit Delta. There will always be people who disagree - you can't please everyone...

I may not work at Delta but the contract will effect every last one of us.

And you'd rather see them liquidated? I guess you don't work for Delta. The TA is still better than most contracts out there if you actually look. Are you not disappointed with the NWA pilots out there too? What about the Skywest pilots who fly 70 seaters for 50 seat pay? Hmmmm - I guess the Delta pilots have ruined everything for you.

Jet Blue and USAirways have already set the E190 precedent. Don't expect the Delta pilots to bend over on that issue - 76 seats is not a HUGE difference from 70 seats. Don't fool yourself. Instead, look at the facts and the context of the situation - a long drawn-out battle would have only hurt the airline even more. This is a better long-term solution. I agree with GL - take the emotion out of the equation. Evidently, a lot of peole on these boards can't do that and just like to take shots at GL for doing what was in the best interest of the pilot group over the long term given the facts.

General Lee said that he wouldn't give up a single seat in scope, no matter what. He said it on every thread he could find. He went on and on about how 50.1% of the pilots would never accept even a slight change to scope, no matter what the rest of the agreement looked like. So, given that, I think everyone is justified for the reaction to his YES vote.
