I think we have around 6800 pilots, and we probably have 350 mainline planes. We just finished parking the last of our 737-200s/300s, and don't PLAN on parking anymore supposedly, including our MD88s which just got new leases at a savings of $200,000 per month each. I would think they would stick around another 5 years or so atleast. We supposedly will be getting a bunch of new and or used planes here in the next few years, but that may not have been announced as of yet. We hear that we will be growing, supposedly. Take that for what it is worth, but our hiring is up for some reason. RUMORED planes coming are 777LRs, 787s, 737-700s (15 ordered), 757-200ERs (13-15 from AA and TWA), and a 100 seater of some sort.

Paris Airshow starts next week 18-24 June, perhaps there will purchase announcements then?

I would guess so. Also look for AMR to order a ton of 787 as well. I think that it will make Boeing open another production line. I guess we will see next week.

I believe its about 7 crews per airplane, and some airplanes have 1.5 & 2 crews required to operate them (767 International and 777). While we have 6800 on the seniority list, I believe only about 6000 are active. The rest are in training, furlough bypass, sick leave, MLOA, PLOA, management, training dept., etc.

Our last bid showed 117 767 positions available for new hires.... nice plain to start on!

The company's March issue of "Plane Talk" posted the following numbers.

Total number of aircraft 440, total in service 396.

Total number of line captains 2,695, line first officers 3,064

Fleet break out as follows:

B777: 8 w/ 7 in service, 118ca/130fo

B766-400: 21 w/ 17 inservice, 171ca/223fo

B767er: 59 w/ 50 in serviced, 470ca/811fo

B767-300/757: 24 767s w/22 in service, 121 757s w/ 112 in service: 793ca/728fo

B737-800: 71 w/ 65 in service 466ca/464fo

MD88/90: 120MD88s w/ 109 in service, 16 MD90s w/ 14 in service, 677ca/708fo

Some fleets have significantly more FO's due to the requirement to have a three man crew for flights over 8 hours. The 767-er and 767-400 often have one captain and two first officers on board, the 777s often have two complete crews on board for their flights over 12 hours.
