I want to apply at Delta, but have a fear of busting their medical exam. I have a Letter of Evidence from the FAA for the color vision test. It basically tells any AME that I can am approved for a class 1 medical without having to pass a color vision test.

Will the Delta medical facility accept this? Anyone at Delta have experience with the same thing? I know there are several pilots in the industry facing the same thing.

Very few folks "fail" the Delta medical. You can bring your waiver with you, and between the FAA and your AME, you should pass. The pysch screening, however, could prove to be a challenge, which is difficult to control.

Well, what do you have to lose. Odds are that you will pass the medical. Quit worrying about what if i fail. It is better to fail the medical exam than to never try. Get your stuff in now and concentrate on the interview.

Just to be clear, a SODA or LOE is not a waiver. It's just a alternative testing procedure that was required to pass the FAA medical. I'm assuming it was for those books with the numbers in them. Have one as well and used the Fonzworth (sp) testing method to demostrate that I could see colors.

It dosen't waive anything in regards to your pilot certificate or ability's.

Shouldn't need to worry about it. The AMR Doc gave me a thumbs up after a ridiculously redundant physical.

If the FAA will accept your alternate color vision test then so must Delta. The days of the NASA physical are long gone with the ADA. If they set standards higher than the feds you may end up owning a few of thier airplanes.

Here's what Delta says in the email when they call you for an interview:

If a conditional job offer is extended after the first day, you will be required to complete a medical history in preparation for a company medical exam. Please be prepared to show approved documentation if your FAA medical certificate includes a special issuance or statement of demonstrated ability.
