Tue Jun 19, 2007 1:07am ET

NEW YORK, June 19 (Reuters) - Delta Air Lines (DAL.N: Quote, Profile , Research) Inc. (DAL.N: Quote, Profile , Research) may order as many as 125 Boeing Co. (BA.N: Quote, Profile , Research) 787 jetliners by the end of this year, The Wall Street Journal Online reported on Tuesday, citing Delta's operating chief Jim Whitehurst.
The order, still being negotiated, would be valued at an estimated $20 billion at list prices, according to the report.
Delta could not immediately be reached for comment. A spokesman for Boeing, reached at the Paris air show, said the company does not comment on speculation about future orders.

Bye Bye--General Lee

In a related story a Delta spokesperson is quoted as saying--

"We have $12 Bil of debt? You ain't seen nothin' yet!"

"Book value -$69/share? Forget about it!"

So this plan is going to be better than Song?

FI.com really needs some more Delta threads. Six active threads on the first page of the Majors section is simply not enough.

It's because they all come to us via the official Company Cheerleader/Baghdad Bob. :puke:

It sure is funny how fast the girls from SWA get their panties in a bunch if someone posts something about their beloved SWA, but if someone else posts anything positive about their airline it must be bull S**t.

Don't tell me the SWA guys won't want to fly one of those 787s when they see them in a few years. Until then, expect them to continually knock Delta to make themselves feel better.

Thanks for the Pension money and the wage reduction...At least you will have a nice airplane to fly for all those years you were planing to be retired....Managment

Things can change. Contract negotiations at Delta are approaching - I doubt wage reductions are in the works based on current trends.

On the great list of things I want to do in life, it doesn't even crack the Top 1000.

Showetime,

Congratulations!!!! You get it. If I was a Delta guy I would be livid. No money for pensions, no money for raises, yet tons of cash to buy 787's and stuff managements pockets. Looks like some guys have shiny jet syndrome

What happened when Delta first got the 777s? The pilots refused to fly them without a payrate, and then drove up the rates on every other DL aircraft. My friends there say expect the same.

Yeah, you say that now. Give yourself a few more years of 25-minute turns and wild overnights in Tulsa and you might want to reconsider that statement. Enjoy your archaic overhead panel.

Heavy,

The reason DALPA was able to do that with the 777 and 767-400 rates is because of a specific clause in our contract...affectionately known as 3B6. That was unfortunately negotiated away in 2000....everybody saw the huge $$$ back then and did what we all would do. Now, we have a formal system to negotiate pay rates on new aircraft types but it doesn't hold the company's feet to the fire like the old contract clause did.
