ASA to close LAX domicile 02/23/2007

To: All ASA People
From: Bryan LaBrecque, president & COO
Subject: ASA to close LAX domicile

Today, ASA leaders shared with our Los Angeles-based team members, Delta’s decision to partner with a different regional airline for service out of LAX beginning with the June 2007 schedule. There is no question that this decision is a difficult one to share considering the great job our crews in L.A. have done since opening our LAX domicile just over two months ago.

Although Delta’s new LAX-based partner will not be announced until early next week, it is sure to be a better fit than ASA for Delta’s expansion into Mexico and the west coast of the United States.

Have you not been paying attention to the other threads at all? There's about 3 or 4 about this very subject.

Yes, the other threads were all speculation. This is the first, I believe with an official announcement, which is why I posted it.

What speculation? Have you been under a rock or something?

Everybody knew this like 3 days ago.

Brian LeBreque always was a sniveling little arrogant $hit.....he was never even remotely able to run ASA.

Let them give the flying to Mesa.

ASA dying is like watching a toxic waste dump close....you feel bad jobs are lost, but in the end the world is a better place for it.

Low ball bid wins, guess X-jet is the new low-bidder in the biz. congrats !

XJT can not be a low bidder, by the CAL contract we are held to charging the same rate for other airlines that we charge for CAL, or else all of our flying is adjusted to the lower rate. Nice try, but that hit was below the belt.

What a stupid comment. XJet's contract is way better than ASA's. If XJet truly is cheaper to operate, then it's because their management has found a way to operate efficiently, despite higher labor costs, something Skywest/ASA needs to learn!

Well said.

Wrong! You are referring to the "most favored airline" clause of the CAL CPA. It does not apply to operations of 10 airplanes or less. So we could be the lowest bidder, I doubt it, but it is possible. It's pretty common knowledge that whatever new operation the GS keeps referring to in his voicemails will be exactly that...10 airplanes.

Exactly!! Hawaiimei needs to get his facts straight before opening mouth.... *insert foot*

How dare you say something like that. Please learn the facts before you go posting random crap like that. Take a look at our contract, pay rates, and business plan before you say we are 'low-balling' now. If we were low-balling various bids, we would've won Midwest and Frontier bids. Furthermore, if we were willing to settle for less, we would've sent those 69 a/c back to CAL to give to Chautauqua to fly at a cheaper rate.

So please, before you go accusing XJT of being a low-ball bidder, learn your facts. Instead of wasting your time posting absurd stuff like this, why don't you start fighting for a better contract at whatever airline you work for!

Your a low-baller now, live with it.

Get of your Jump to Conclusions mat. It ísn´t for sure yet. We didn´t take a paycut to get it, if we even got any of that DAL flying. If you wanna direct your anger at somebody, might want to make it the real low ballers. I need not say whom.

This B.S. is so stupid. Who cares if they call us low-ballers, maybe our company offered to do it for free (we all know they didn't) but we as pilots can't change what proposal rates management submitted so who gives a dang. This is just like thinking we didn't get F9 flying or Midwest flying because we have an "industry leading contract". We don't know that, I think it is managment stratagies and not pilot contracts that allow some RFPs to be won or lost. The people that think this are the same people that think anyone cares about our "superior product" and capabilities of the XR. Grow up and realize it's propably cheaper for CAL to strand 3 people or weight restrict a flight than it is to keep paying the high lease rates on our most expensive A/C... Also grow up and realize that very few customers chose us based on our service. If there are two direct flights on Expedia the average passanger is going to go with the one they get FF miles for or the one that costs less, not that one that has FA's that smile and free sandwiches.

Did you happen to listen to the ALPA/Mgt conf call? Mgt sure seems to believe in a quality product and in the capabilities of the XR. Mgt also alluded to a study done by a network carrier that actually validated using a higher priced feeder with better service than the low baller.
