Delta orders 10 Boeing 737-700s
Thursday December 7, 9:52 am ET
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Delta Air Lines Inc. (Other OTC:DALRQ.PK - News) said on Thursday that it would order 10 Boeing 737-700 aircraft and convert five firm orders for 777-200ERs to longer-range 777-200LRs, but it would sell a number of planes it has already ordered from Boeing Co. (NYSE:BA - News) as it tries to emerge from bankruptcy.
The company said it has agreed to sell upon delivery 38 Boeing 737-800 aircraft. It will sell 15 to Aviation Capital Group and 23 to Babcock & Brown Aviation Finance Ltd.

Next will have a reality show called Flip this Airplane.

I guess if it works for houses maybe Delta can do it with jets.

Delta Reaches Comprehensive Agreement With Boeing

Thursday December 7, 9:26 am ET

Orders will enhance Delta's international flexibility, increase choices for customers

ATLANTA, Dec. 7, 2006 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Delta Air Lines announced today that it has reached agreement with The Boeing Company to convert five firm orders for Boeing 777-200ER aircraft to longer-range Boeing 777-200LR aircraft (two conversions were previously announced), to order 10 Boeing 737-700 aircraft, and to assume its existing aircraft purchase agreements with Boeing. Delta has agreed to sell, immediately upon delivery, 38 future deliveries of Boeing 737-800 aircraft - 15 to Aviation Capital Group and 23 to Babcock & Brown Aviation Finance Limited. These actions support Delta's planned international expansion, give it additional flexibility to fly new routes, and complete an important element of its restructuring. These transactions are subject to Bankruptcy Court approval.

We've had a long-standing relationship with Boeing and the addition of these aircraft to Delta's existing Boeing fleet allows the company to fulfill key elements of its long-term fleet plan, which is vital to Delta's restructuring and plans to emerge from Chapter 11 in the first half of 2007 as a solid, independent carrier,'' said Mel Fauscett, managing director of Fleet Planning and Acquisition for Delta. ``These new aircraft are also an important part of Delta's transformation, enabling Delta to fly customers to more international destinations in greater comfort. We continue to evaluate the needs of our network moving forward and plan to provide more guidance on the fleet when we file our Plan of Reorganization later this month.''
All five of the new 777 aircraft will be delivered with fully horizontal personal sleeper suites in BusinessElite(r) featuring on-demand in-flight entertainment systems in every suite. Customers flying in Economy class also will enjoy more room and nine-inch personal entertainment screens in every seat back, complementing Delta's efforts to retrofit its fleet of 777s and more than 100 737-800 and 767-300 aircraft with on-demand, in-seat entertainment at every customer's seat by the end of 2008.
These transactions with Boeing will introduce the first 737-700 aircraft to Delta's fleet, replacing 10 future options for Boeing 737-800s with the 737-700. ``The 737-700 is a better fit for the current needs of our network, providing flexibility in our fleet to fly longer, thinner domestic routes while at the same time supporting our international expansion to Latin America and the Caribbean,'' Fauscett said.
The 737-700 will operate with a common cockpit type to the 71 737-800s in Delta's fleet, but will be configured with 124 seats vs. the 150-seat 737-800s to serve smaller and developing markets. The 737-700 also will be delivered to Delta with winglets to deliver additional fuel savings and efficiencies.
During the Chapter 11 process, Delta has achieved $400 million of a projected $450 million in fleet savings by entering into agreements for lower lease payments; retiring four older, less-efficient aircraft types; and by rejecting, returning or selling 138 aircraft (as of October 31, 2006). Should these agreements be approved by the Court, Delta's mainline fleet, order and options will be:

We have a definitive agreement, which was approved by the Bankruptcy Court, with a third party to sell 10 B737-800 aircraft immediately after those aircraft are delivered to us by the manufacturer in 2007. (b) We have agreements, subject to approval by the Bankruptcy Court, with two separate third parties to sell 38 B737-800 aircraft immediately after those aircraft are delivered to us by the manufacturer - including seven aircraft in 2008, 14 aircraft in 2009 and 17 aircraft in 2010. (c) These agreements are included in the above table because we continue to have a contractual obligation to purchase these aircraft from the manufacturer.

Delta Air Lines (Other OTC:DALRQ.PK - News) offers customers service to more destinations than any global airline with Delta and Delta Connection carrier service to 290 destinations in 46 countries. With more than 50 new international routes added in the last year, Delta is America's fastest growing international airline and is a leader across the Atlantic with flights to 28 trans-Atlantic destinations. To Latin America and the Caribbean, Delta offers more than 400 weekly flights to 49 destinations. Delta's marketing alliances also allow customers to earn and redeem SkyMiles on more than 14,000 flights offered by SkyTeam and other partners. Congrats Delta. Furloughees are looking at a bright future.

My only question is, when are the MD-88s scheduled for retirement??

I have heard starting in 2011 the MD88s will start to leave. The MD90s after that probably. There will have to be another large order to replace them I assume.

Do you mean a bright future sitting at home? They said they are SELLING the 38 planes upon delivery and taking delivery of 10 700's and a few 777's..

And to think how JB was bashed relentlessly for selling 5 of our older airframes and replacing them with new..

Congrats Delta. Furloughees are looking at a bright future.

Except they just said with the USAir deal there could be up to 1000 furloughs-

Luckily everyone at DL and probably most of Congress will help stop that. And, good ole Parker even stated in the Press that he would NOT fight DL management in BK court. Thanks Parker!

So, we won't be buying any more planes? We couldn't get the first 737-700 until 2008, and we are still getting many other 738s. We didn't dump all of our 738 orders. The MD88s should stay around thru 2011, and then start a gradual draw down. Look at the AA MD80s still flying, they are a lot older than our MD88s.

When you hire on anticipating Captain upgrade to make a decent wage and the corporation sells airplanes then, yes, I do think its worrisome. Bashed?? Not by me.

Getting new airplanes is definitely a change in vector for Delta. Congrats to them. It looks good for most of the furloughes, of which 2 are my buds.

Selling your higher wage airplanes as you get more EMB-190's is not good. Didn't I hear you might do it again this year?? Sorry you are so sensitive about it. I think the Delta guys are sensitive too about going from a 10K pilot airline to a 6,500 pilot airline as their over 55 guys ran away screaming with suitcases full of cash. They sucked nearly $2Bil out of the retirement plan. It's not all about you sport.

I'm tired of giving you a break 'cause of your cool avatar....She doesn't put out anyway. ;)

Let's see... Parker is saying no furloughs, but Moak is saying 1000 Delta pilot fourloughs and GJerry isn't saying anything.

Looking at track records, GG said do it once do it right.... hmm, that didn't work out.

Lee said that all flying above 70 seats would be done by Delta pilots, hmmm, that didn't work out.

Parker hasn't lied (yet) that I'm aware of (maybe a AmWest or USAir type can chime in on that one)....

Everyone at DL is along for the ride... going to a rally isn't going to change anything. It's all about money. Even congress could care less about employee votes if business votes stuff their coffers to replace their pac money.

I'm sure this move maybe had something to do with the USAIRWAYS merger...creating more types that differ from US.

Define "sold"

So are the 737's being "sold" leaving the Delta property, or are they being "sold" into some sort of leasing company arrangement to be leased back to Delta to stay on the property? I know some companies do this sort of thing quite regularly.

This is a joke, I'm sorry.

"Folks, there is nothing to see here. Please enjoy the 3 string ensamble now playing on the promanade deck. Pay no attention to that officer lowering the life boat. It is just a weekly safety drill. Please folks, enjoy the new sleeper seats,.,., I mean the new casino now located on level 2."

Don't know. But when Delta did this before the planes never made it on the property.

It appears the 38 737-800s are being sold immediately after delivery. We are not losing ANY airplanes that we CURRENTLY operate. Whether we end up leasing any of them back from the new owners is anyone's guess. While its not the Boeing order many of us were hoping for, its still a gain in aircraft over what we currently have.

So 10-15 757s next year, then 9-10 airplanes the next year after that, some of which are Dual-Crew'd 777s.

There have been many rumors of a much larger order from Boeing...hopefully we'll see some glimmer of that in the company's exit plan this month.

PS...I'm going to the Rally..commuting down from the Northeast for the day....if there was any more of an immediate threat to this Company, its this pathetic merger attempt. I can't in good concience do nothing...I think every BODY counts at this Rally. If only 100 people show up, that'll certainly make the news in a negative way and give Parker more fuel.
