The General must be gripping the stick too tight. All kidding aside, I hope everyone is OK.

Delta flight hits hard on landing

Date: Monday, March 08, 2004 7:00:06 PM EST

LOS ANGELES, March 8 (UPI) -- A Delta Airlines flight made a hard landing Monday at the John Wayne Airport near Los Angeles but there were injuries, a report said.

The plane's front landing gear gave way after the landing with the nose of the plane slamming into the runway at the airport in Orange County, KABC-TV reported.

The report said the plane had just taken off for Dallas when the pilot reported the landing gear would not retract.

The pilot then decided to turn around for the emergency landing. One of the runways was closed for a short time.

ASA CRJ-700, other reports state is was a broken pin in the landing gear that prevented it from retracting and it landed and was towed off the runway

Torque link probably not connected properly; disconnected after t/o.

Nose gear shimmy on the rollout with [tire] smoke reported by the tower. Pax evac thru main door ensued...

I agree with Oakum, that is why we don't disconnect the torque links on CRJ puchbacks. Easy to look like that pin is connected when it is not fully engaged.
Only problem is a limiting turn radius for the pushback crew that if exceeded can do some big damage.

Tail Number?

Happened to me Fri night in DFW. Torque link unhooked. Didn't evacuate though, but is sure is a heck of a ride untill slow taxi speed.

Smoke

It is from the front tires vaining back and forth with no directional control. We went through as set of front tires in a few hundred feet. Wore them to almost the chord.
