What is the Delta plan for the 717s. Are they replacing the Dc9s or are they going to be additional (growth) airplanes? For some reason this has been a SWA/AT topic regarding the 717. What are the Delta boys and girls hearing? Any discussion on bases and schedule?

Based in ATL and DTW. First deliveries in the second half of 2013.

Spun to Wall Street as replacement for CRJ-200's. As far as DAL pilots and mainline fleet count are concerned they are net growth.

The 100 737-900ER's replace older 757's, 767-300's, and 320's.

The MD90's replace the DC9's (numbers-wise.)

The 717's are growth but will replace the DC9's mission-wise.

To anybody in the know, the MD-90s, are they straight up purchases or are they leasing them? I've seen a few of the Delta's -90s what is the difference between them and the -88s besides slightly bigger engines. Rode up front on -88s but never seen a MD-90 cockpit.

Purchases I believe...market values are less than 9 million.

V2500 engines, same as the A320. Five foot stretch in length with very minor cockpit changes.

Stop being a dicko.

"Mission," as in "city-pairs" and "utilization."

I understand the meaning of the word. I even understand it within the context of the sentence. I just think it sounds a little fukcin silly when we're talking about a civilian airliner. Maybe it's a Delta thing.

Or maybe it's me.

He must have meant stage length. Referring to the financial return an aircraft provides on a particular length of flight. Even though the 717 was designed to maximize return on shorter stage lengths, the cost advantages of single fleet (mx/training) prompted SWA to eliminate the 717 ahead of the previously discussed schedule. That's why I thought they would replace the DC9. The MD90 is designed for longer stage lengths, so I was a little confused how they were replacing the DC9. With today's high fuel cost an the DC9 burning 6k lbs an hour, you can probably replace it with just about anything and come out ahead I guess.

" My name is ACE."

"Really? is that the name your Mother gave you?"

" No. That is my call sign. What is our mission today? "

" Never mind...Checklist. "

"Logbook. "

" Got it..."

"Logbook."

"Yeah, got it. "

"Logbook...."
That's a great YouTube spoof... :D

They're sub-leases. That way Delta didn't have to renegotiate the lease rates with Boeing.

As far as I know, the Agreement hasn't been signed yet. They delayed signing it until they fully vet the A.D. issue on the cracks in the fuselage, figured out what it meant to the DAL fleet long-term, etc. That info is as of mid-week last week, may have been done on Friday or this week.

From a pure fleet analysis perspective as they affect pilots and hiring, they are growth aircraft for Mainline pilots, since the CRJ-200's that are being retired aren't flown by mainline. They will have to hire for that growth as well as age-65 retirements starting some time late next year or early 2014, even with the somewhat minor overstaffing situation they're in right now.

That's the most up to date information I have. Someone at DALPA might have additional info than that.
