I am one of those guys who is taking the slow road (32 yrs old)to getting a college degree. I do plan on finishing it before I apply at SWA. I know the website says "college degree preferred" I was just wondering if anyone has been hired at swa WITHOUT a college degree? thanks!

What about at Jetblue?

Don't wait until you have a degree to apply, the sooner you get here the better.

Some will say that "if there are two persons that are very similar on paper"...yadda yadda. Nope, SWA will hire you because of your personality, not your above the mins qualifications.

There are people at SWA with no Kollege degree, actually some with a GED.

I recently flew with an interviewer/pilot who told me that degree or no degree, if we like you you're in. And if we don't like you, a degree from Harvard won't help you.

Don't wait!

At least I know one

My best friend/ flight instructor was hired at SWA without a degree. The Wright Brothers didn't have a degree either so what?. I am not putting down people with degrees. I have a degree and experience in aero/astro engineering but it will not make them like or dislike me.
They want to know if you can finish what you start and if you can follow structured courses, work in groups, learn, study, etc... Just let them see all that and then some and you'll be fine. Of course tell them you are working on it. If you are worried about your answer when they ask you, do tell the person that you use for your prep to address that issue. Good luck and of course Feliz Navidad!

I also had a guy in my new hire class without a college degree; a great guy. Once you get to the interview, I agree, its a non issue. However, now a computer will rack and stack you and select you for the interview. It will be competitive. And SWA says college degrees are preferred. So my guess is the computer will rank you higher with the degree. You may be the greatest guy, but you have to first GET to the interview. Don't wait to apply, but don't blow off the degree either, IMHO.

I are hear...

and ain't got no digree neither.......;)

learflyer,

I have no college and just a GED...I'm a SWA F/O and darn happy to be here.

But let me say, it took me a long time to get here and I worked a lot of flying jobs that really stunk. I thought for the longest time that's all I was worth, hauling checks around at night or flying charter.

Then I met the love of my life and she turned my thoughts around and said, "you don't get the job until you apply...let them tell you your no good, not you." She hounded me and was in the loop on everything I did to apply.

Anyway, long story short, apply now, and keep going to college. The quicker you get here the better your seniority number...and let me tell you, that's the number one thing at an airline! Don't waste your time, get the process going.
