Spooky I was referring to the situation you would have in the NATS, and RNP 25 would be out of limits, but you can use GPS for RNP 10, or whatever outside of service volume of a Nav Aid. BTW made many crossing of both the Atlantic and Pacific using the good ole Sextant. Back in the ole days all VP pilots had to qualify as Nav's prior to making Aircraft Commander. I trusted that thing, if you knew how to work it and had some Cel bodies in sight, you were never lost.

Was your VP Squadron a Connie operation by chance?
 
Nope P-3A's 68-71 time frame, when the P-3C's came along the pilot's no longer had to go to Nav school.
