Has anyone been in to this private strip recently? I'm getting conflicting reports as to runway dimensions/condition. The resort tells my boss that it's 4,200' and something about it's 65' wide at the ends and 41' wide in the middle and no info as to what it consists of - crushed coral maybe?

I think Coast Guard Falcon's go in there and other military fixed wing.

Been in to Deep Water many times, but in nothing bigger then a King Air 200. I have witnessed a Citation Excel and a Lear 35 come in and out. The runway is compacted coral and in great shape with no loose debris. The width does get a bit thin in the middle with some mangroves growing close to the runway, but they seem to trim them back often. The club can arrange customs to drive out from Freeport so clearing customs is easy. Hope this helps.

It is a private strip, so no military aircraft land there.

I flew in there about 2 years ago in a Citation 550 (Bravo). The dimensions above seem correct. Runway is compact crushed coral. It was in good shape. No taxiways to turn around so make sure you can make a tight U-turn.

Limited parking just off the runway. When I flew in there, there were 2 smaller planes parked so I had to park on the approach end of the runway while we cleared customs (I know this sounds dumb, but I had no other choice). Being a private strip, they are aware of what aircraft are due in and they ensured me no one else was coming soon. I was still nervous there would be some emergency aircraft that needed to land while my plane sit parked on the runway. The customs shack is right next to the approach end of the runway. We just made a drop and go and the customs people were right there at the runway waiting for us. No fuel there either.

If I remember correctly, the airport was not in our FMS database, so we had to cancel the GPWS on short final to avoid getting the "Pull up" warnings. Also while on final, the runway heading seemed to be off by 20-30 degrees compared to what was published. Hopefully this has been corrected. Since at the time we were confused, we compared the picture in the Bahamian Flying Guide to what we saw out the window and it matched.

Funny, I had actually seen that picture on airliners.net before and, not really registering mentally where it was, thought "Wow, what an interesting place to fly a jet into". We'll be taking a Citation 501 in there, so it shouldn't be a problem it sounds.
