I have been pondering this decision for the past two weeks. It is very close to the time to make a call.

Right now, I am flying as a FO doing on-demand cargo. It is great experience. Large multi turbine (prop). So I can’t complain. And it is a great company to work for.

My goal is flying for the majors.

My choice is this. I am on the cusp of being typed in the aircraft. If I do type in the aircraft the company is most likely ask for a one year commitment. Unless, I want to pay for the type. At least that is what I have heard. This will be excellent experience for me. And it would be PIC time, which is very important for the majors.

My other choice is this. Turn down the type rating so that I can pursue flying for a regional. Most likely, I could do this well within one year of when I would have typed.

I am looking at in this way. If I decide to type, I should just stay at this company and build up the pic time. I would not really be looking at going to a regional anymore. Because my type and pic time would not add up to a hill of beans at a regional. I would pursue other options besides the regionals if I took the route of being typed.

However, if I go with the regionals I would stay there and build up my time and experience. Then just wait for the upgrade.

They seem to be two total different routes to go. The thing I am trying to leave out of the choice is money. I have learned how to live off a pittance. Quality of life does play into it a little. Most regionals would have a higher quality of life than I have now. I am on a 19 and 9 schedule currently. But I could be transferred to a scheduled run which is five nights a week.

I am simply looking for different opinions on this. Thanks for any input. It is greatly appreciated!

no contest. Stay where you are get your type and PIC time. Also you are going to distinguish yourself from everybody else in the regionals. As long as the pay is good and the schedule is good why leave. It's a sure thing.

If typed would you upgrade to left seat? I know if your typed and right seat you can still log PIC time. However, some airlines are anal about accepting turbine PIC unless you signed for the aircraft (i.e. the true PIC).

Something to keep in mind. At any rate, I would stay.

When I pass the type training I will be going to the left seat shortly there after.

Thanks for the advice! I would say this is the best way to get many different points of view.

Hey WANKEL!!!!!!!!

Hey dawg...it's you know who..
I called the cell phone and left a messege. I talked to you on the way back to college town virginia...after that i got to thinking...well... a week later i put a bid in on the jet. I'm not getting the time i need where i am on the scheduled run...everyone in my newhire class is about to pass me on total time. Anyways...bidding the jet would. 1. put me in a jet. 2. Most likely take me to dallas..i've already got a place to stay. 3. Take me away from the run i'm currently on. So let me know what you think...the more i think about it...if i were you i'd do what your doing.....take the upgrade...try and stay on charter for the extra hours. Well...take care bro...thrown a few down on a sunday night!!!!!!!!!!!
you know who.:-)
