Anyone been into Death Valley (Stovepipe or Furnace Creek ) lately? Wondering what the runway conditions are after all the rain.

English,

A lady at work was there a couple of weeks ago in her C182. She took some breathtaking digital shots. I'll ask her tomorrow and pass along the info.

Thanks, that would be great!

I hear the widflowers are in bloom, but I also heard the runways may not be in great shape.

I heard the flowers are blooming like never before. Someone told me the whole valley floor is covered in color. Anyone know if this is true? My girlfriend's itching to use her new picnic basket.:)

I can't verify anything about Death Valley since I haven't flown over it lately, but I can say that almost all of Nevada, Arizona, Utah & New Mexico is either knee deep in water (ALL lakebeds & rivers in those states have water in them) or a brilliant green as the hillsides bloom. It's really incredible to see so much green everywhere.

Flying over the Mojave from PHX to SNA a couple weeks ago you could see the glint of water everywhere. Even Edwards AFB has the lake right up to the edge of the paved runway.

Sat next to a guy who drove out to the valley last week. He said everything was flooded. He also said the flowers were blooming like Death Valley has never seem before.

Thanks! What about Stovepipe - did you see it at all? I might need the extra 200 feet...

I didn't see it, sorry. But the driver at Furnace Creek is funny. LOL. When we went they were only letting 10gals of gas to each plane because they didnt have enough.

English,

Sorry, the lady I was thinking of drove out rather than flying her C182. She did see one of the airports. Doesn't know which one it was, but it was the one closer to the hotel. She said the runway looked OK and it had airplanes on it.

The pictures she shot are absolutely fantastic, though. Lots of green, flowers and ever a water fall.

Thanks TransMach. I'm thinking I'm going to just drive as well. I can't seem to find ground transportation once I get there.
