Just curious if anyone knows off-hand which companies make KDCA (or Dulles or Baltimore for that matter) a pilot-base. I know Comair and Independence are in the region, I just don't recall the others that base operations in the area.
Thanks.

DCA
US Air Airbus (and 737?) and MainAtlantic E-170. Mesa E-145 used to but not sure anymore.

HEF - Colgan

BWI - SWA and Pace

CHO (1.5 hour south) - PDT DHC-8

RIC - CHQ E-145

AirWiss - IAD

Shuttle America - IAD

LearLove,

Your intentions were admirable, however you got several pilot bases/airlines wrong in your post

Shuttle America does not have an IAD base. The crews are based in FWA, then repo empty FWA-DAY, before flying DAY-IAD as United Express. They they continue on, "spoking" to several cities out of IAD like HPN, UNV, etc.....

I'm not sure if RIC is a CHQ E 145 based. I know for sure that Trans States has E 145 crews based there. I think they (Trans States) may also have J-41s based there as well.

USA3000 also has a pilot base in BWI. I think that new startup, SkyLink, will also be flying out of BWI so presumably their crews will be based there.

Mesa has an IAD crew base for CRJs

And, of course, my team, Independence Air, has all our CRJ and A319 crews based in IAD. Unfortunately, we won't be hiring for a long, long time..... (unless don't want to fly and want to work the ramp instead).

Go Blue Ridge!

Actually........

IAD is Shuttle America's largest base. Only a few crews are based in FWA and are either flown in on the DAY-IAD flight or are abused by crew sked and made to deadhead to IAD via ORD. There have been rumors of the FWA base growing but only rumor for now....... Big announcement Friday! :)

Well, the truth be told...I asked b/c I once lived in the WDC region, left a good job/great career, etc, etc to move away somewhere more reasonable to pursue full-time instructing and a new career in aviation. Time has passed and I am more employable as a pilot, and would like to return to a "stable" company that I know I will have a good chance of living there long term.
Thanks for the input.

TMA -IAD

OMNI - BWI

World - flies a lot out of BWI and may call the base IAD?

AA - bwi,dca, iad

Shuttle America does have an IAD base.

RIC is a CHQ E 145 base.

And I also hope Independance makes it.

TSA => RIC J41, EMB 145

I drive back and forth from northern VA, outside of DC. 1.5 hrs, not a hard thing once or twice a week.

Mid-Atlantic is a "regional" staffed mostly by furloughed USAir pilots getting paid sh1t. And thus the nick-name "Main-Atlantic."
