I am starting Training on the DC-8 soon and wonder if there is a tech site where you can read tru some details about the plane. There are wonderful sites about the 727 & 737 - does something exist for the 8 ?

Or is somebody willing to share some training notes ?

Thanks for your help, sub !

I have never seen a DC-8 site but then I have never looked. When I was on the 8 I couldn't even spell computer.;) I sorry I don't have anything other than old manuals which your welcome to have if you can arrange shipping.:D

nosewheel, very much appreciate your shipping offer - but that's gonna be eeeexpensive :D.

Are there any "nice to know" things about the plane, which make life a bit easier ?

it's gonna hurt real bad if you crash...:D...best of luck to you...

Its all cables man...

Piano wire, springs, gripper assemblies and muscle...

ENJOY!!

agreed on the cables.....first time i looked into the wheel wells and accessory compartments was a real eye opener to the 40 year old technology.
Good luck in class. Who do you fly for?

I have been a DC-8 mechanic for some time now. When I had an opportunity to fly a DC-4 a little bit and also wrench on it, I was pleasantly suprised that the DC-4 technology was not that much different from the 8, except that the DC-4 had strait wings and burned avgas.

Where are you going to work?

Sometimes I really miss the 8. What a great airplane, I feel lucky to have been able to fly them (DC8-62/63/71).

Enjoy your training, hope you don't have to train at that place in Maimi (Aeroservices).

Training takes place in Europe as i have been informed so far. What's up with Aeroservice ? Visited that place only once to check out a 737 rating offer for a friend. They promised him many things that never would/did happen...after he has given them a few thousand bucks...but different story

It's a small private company who only own's one plane but they really take care of it. Some interesting destinations not seen in day to day euro-airline-ops :D
