Good Morning all,

I recently had a Southwest guy in the jump who's a reserve puke like myself. I was surprised to learn that a SWA reserve pilot gets 15 days off per month! Good for you guys!

Here at Alaska, all reserve lines have 12 days off per month. No more, no less. A guy might be able to create a day 7 problem and get himself 13 off with carry over from the previous month, but it is not something that you can count on.

So here is my question. How many days off does your contract give you per month while on a reserve line? To keep it apples to apples, lets just talk about B737 (or Fifi equequivalent) drivers.
 
We do get 15 days off on reserve. We are also largely used on those reserve days. No short or long call outs. Basically the understanding is being able to show at the airport two hours after call out but that happens very rarely. And the time I have spent on reserve it never happened to me. I have spent a total of about one year on reserve during my SWA career.

You are also the "Luv Be-otch" during those days. Reroutes are common during your reserve trip. Its kind of a crap shoot.

I expire on landings in 2 weeks so I fly once a month or so for now, in the winter.

12 in a 30 day month
13 in a 31 day month

14 hour long call, 2 hour short call, based on reserve availability and number of days you have left.

We get pre-release days depending on staffing and how busy the month is. 1 or 2, sometimes none, where they give you extra days off of your reserve days. Again, it depends.

Reserve is great in the slow months, you won't do $hit. Lots of long call and not much work if you work your schedule correctly. In the busy months, you will work. December was tough.

It's all relative and it is what you make of it.
 
Virgin America

Requires 19 reserve duty periods per month.

So that means either 11 off (30 day month) or 12 off (31 day month).
 
Allegiant- 10 days off a month regardless of 30 or 31 day month.
 
Spirit - minimum of four days off every set of days...equates to at least 14 in most months..
 
Delta is 13 days off (x-days, we call them) for a 30 day month and 14 for a 31 day month. There is a provision in the contract for extra x-days if your category is overmanned...got me an extra x day in December.

It's a 12 hour call out unless they put you on short call. They can put you on short call a max of 6 days a month. (this increases to 7 when the new FTDT rules take effect limiting short call to 14 hours...right now international categories can be on short call for up to 24 hours, which really sucks). If you're on short call, it's "immediately available" in the contract...roughly a 2 hour call-out, but not really defined.

The most I've ever done is 5 short calls in a month. I rarely get anything when on short call. Other categories seem to get used more, but my category is very overmanned right now.

There is also a provision to volunteer for more short-calls for extra money, but I haven't really looked into that one as I am a commuter and absolutely hate short call.

Minimum pay is 72 hours. It moves with the Average Line Value, can be as high as 80 hours in busy months. Since the new contract took effect it was 80 for 2 months, then it's been 72 every month since. It actually bumped up to 73 for Jan.
