In my quest for a headset, I'm on my third one. First I tried a FlightCom Denali II ANR, but that leaked an ungodly amount of wind noise when I turned my head. So I returned that and got a Lightspeed 30 3G, but at full power, it sounded like popcorn popping. Lightspeed overnighted a new one (wow, awesome service) and paid to ship mine back to them. Just got back from flying it, and the new one isn't as bad, but it still has a few kernels of corn bouncing around in it somewhere. Which won't cut it in a $575 headset.

So next on the list is David Clark, specifically the 10-13X. I've used a 13.4, but i've always been so busy doing maneuvers that I have never really noticed how comfortable it is. The specs say it only weighs 1 oz more than the 3G, but what's it really like?

thanks

Ok?

OK! Your welcome?

that is really weird your having problems with the lightspeed. I love mine...have you tried them in a different airplane?

What do you mean? There was a question at the end of that.

As for another airplane, no I haven't. I've used Denali II's in the airplane though with no odd effects.

i love my DC 10-13X...it really is just like the normal 13.4 with the ANR added on. i use them in old 152s up through seminoles and they are a godsend. i was using an old, crappy headset and the step up is remarkable for comfort. haven't had any problems with comfort, etc. i usually have to throw a new 9v battery in every month or so.

I use a 13X in the twotter (super noisy). It works great except that the plane is so loud that I still use ear plugs as well ( I have to crank up the radios to hear them, so that might defeat the whole purpose, ha ha), but most of the low pitch background noise is gone. I've worn them for 8+ hours some days with a baseball hat and sunglasses and never had my head hurt at all. I typically get 20-30 hours out of one battery, so be sure and go to Costco for the super bonus pack of 9V's. I have experienced the occasional popping noises, but its usually when the battery is about dead and you just turn off the enc switch to get rid of it. Overall, nice headset, very comfortable, decent price for what your getting, and legendary customer service if anything goes wrong, even if its out of warranty.

Peace

I have the DC 10-20XL or something like that. I'm happy with it myself, only complaints are after a long day though it does seem a little noticable weight wise. The gel seals leak a fair amount of noise with my sunglasses (arnette, catfish). But arnette's are pretty decent sized frames, but works great without those sunglasses. When its hot, you get swamp ear, but i think thats with most headsets anyways. Just remember to shut your DC off after shut down because its easy to forget you left it on.

A qualtiy ANR headset (read, not David Clark), has auto-shutdown so you don't need to worry about forgetting to turn them off.

Your problem with the Lightspeed is that it's auto-gain circuity isn't working quite right and is going unstable, producing that sound. I had the same problem with mine years ago (I bought the 25XL right when it came out), but I got it fixed and never had the problem again. Strange that you're still running into it.

Try Telex, or Sennhiser too. Of course you could just go Bose and forget all that.

What are the good Telex and Sennheiser models?

As for Bose, I just can't justify 1k for a headset.

my 10-13X has a switch in the ANR box to turn the auto shutoff on or off...
