Do you guys at HA know why your senior management has requested a meeting with DAL management next week?

I am assuming he is at the beach until monday

Actually right here, but good assumption though!

I hate to say it but..... I've heard variations of that from 3 different sources in the last couple days. One I would think as more reliable than the typical "Delta's buying Hawaiian" rumor sources that have been out there for years.
So..... I could be eating my words OR it could be something as simple as the fact that DAL does a lot of our maint. And they are having discussions about that. I will say that AA has gotten approval for more codesharing with us in their recent contract. Could be they want to counter that somehow?

Add to that, I heard a mentioning of the Delta 767's we have. Maybe some sort of lease renegotiation of some sort. I think 1 or 2 of the Delta GE a/c were slated to leave this year...

A Delta pilot told me that, even thought HA is cheep, HA does not own any of there aircraft. He said buying HA would be taking on a lot of debt. Any of this true ?

Why would an airline not own any aircraft?

We recently self financed all the 717's, we own outright some of the 767's. I'm no high finance expert, but I do know enough to say that our debt is in check for how much we have expanded and is getting paid off quicker than the min required. That said, I'm sure we would bring a lot of debt to the table that is worth it if it is for Hawaiian's future, but maybe not as much if it was just converted into a few more routes for DAL

Good point, although it's my understanding those are some of the 767's we own outright. But their could be talks about those or expanding a partnership.

We own the 4 former Delta 767s. We bought them cheap out of the desert and converted them to ETOPS.

Here's another thought. HA and DAL are the only? 717 operators in the U.S. Boeing just announced they are moving the 717 sim out of SEA to MIA. Perhaps we are trying to work a deal in that area. Hawaiian just purchased a new A330 sim that will be in HNL, so sim time is a high priority for us.

Or going with the 717 train of thought, could DAL be trying to work a deal to buy all the 717s? HA could replace their inter island flying with A319s (and Island Air ATRs) perhaps?

Page 25 of the annual report: 4 A330s, 7 767s, 15 717s, and 2 ATR-42 are owned.

Page 14: "At December 31, 2012, our total debt was $554.6 million, of which $489.8 million is fixed-rate debt."

Unrestricted cash and cash equivalents of $405.9 million.

HA's in good financial shape and not DAL's probably not looking to buy another carrier.

I'll go with the theory that DAL's looking for 717s.

Interesting, it hadn't occurred to me but that makes sense. Do a 717 deal with DAL and get small Airbuses. HA has not been afraid of making bold moves of late.

If it fornicates, flies or floats........rent it!
