All my sympathies to the Delta pilots - good luck - but the American public is full of ignorant fools. I was sitting at the airport the other day and heard several people comment when the airport TV's carried a brief CNN mention of the looming Delta strike. The comments were all words to the effect:

"Delta is losing millions of dollars and the pilots want MORE MONEY?!"

The American public automatically links the words "union" and "strike" with malcontent and lazy workers trying to ruin their employer. Most people are as stupid as Pavlov's dogs. Perhaps ALPA should take some of the money it's paying the staff in Herndon and hire a public relations firm to get the truth out there. Someone needs to loudly proclaim the message that airline managements in this country are working on flawed business models - they make lots of money in good times, but don't adjust to a market where they don't have pricing power, and are simply out of ideas.

Good luck.

We aren't here really to prove to the American public that we want a "pay raise" or whatever. We are trying to prove to management that throwing out our contract would lead to a strike. We have placed ads in the past in some large newspapers, but our resources shouldn't go to mainly public relations. It goes to getting info out to our members so we are ready in case of a strike. Our practice strike and press releases concerning the cleaning out of our lockers were ment to show the public and the company that we are serious. IF they start to book away, maybe that will give an extra nudge to the company to get this thing negotiated. I still say goodbye to all of our passengers after each great landing I do. (almost every time)

Bye Bye--General Lee

The public doesn't care about your income, all they see is cheap tickets and safe travel. Nothing has had any effect on this within the present time, thus there is very little attention to it in the media. Why the public isn't outraged over company abuse of bankrupcy laws to exploit workers, is beyond me. Once we are finished, they are next.

This is the very same public that shops at WalMart. This public will always have the impression that airline pilots are all overpaid indelibly engraved in their minds because of the media and management pr.

However, their opinion on the looming Delta strike is basically irrelevant.

One of the reasons why the flying public doesn't seem to care about the plight of pilots working for the airlines is very simple. They're not inform. Whats the difference between pilots & airtraffic controllers? The amount of respondability is the same. However, the controllers unions are at least informing the public with a series of tv ads on thier plight. If Alpa or any pilot union will just inform the public by radio, tv, or newspaper perhaps the public will finally become enlightin & support the pilots unions against management. Am I right?
