After watching the testimony on Capitol Hill I can’t help but think that the representative from Wisconsin was correct. The new company will still have to pay the same rates for fuel, plains and gates. There is only one area where the can cut costs…..labor. The Delta MEC chairman thinks this is a good deal. How he can say that I have no idea. If you look at just one scenario and that is merging a union FA group with a new union group you are just asking for trouble. This will turn into a America West/USAir type scenario very quickly. In the end Moak will have to explain how he thought this was a good deal for employees.

Moak doesn't fear arbitration, he just isn't used to it like your guys, who couldn't negotiate their way out of a paper bag without "observers." Heck, the first thing your guys said at our first meeting was "ok, which arbitrator are we going to pick?" They can't negotiate, and it is obvious.
Bye Bye--General Lee

Sure, keep telling yourself that.

From what I've read this merger isn't about cutting costs -- other than in management and back-office areas. It's about --- dare I say it --- "synergies." As much as I despise the overuse of the term, it's probably the best word to describe what their plan is.

This is the reason Wall Street is so negative on the merger.

How it plays out is anyone's guess. It's easy to be cynical. Sometimes, it's too easy.

he Delta MEC chairman thinks this is a good deal. ...... In the end Moak will have to explain how he thought this was a good deal for employees.

If he intends his current course to work on managements behalf behind the NWA pilots back, he will guarantee his own side another date with the judge. Hail Hail Capt Moak!!! Great work!!!

I hate to correct grammar and spelling errors, but...PLANES! As in AIRPLANES!

That's true, its about readjusting routes and aircraft and increasing efficiencies with economy of scale.

And you guys sure do seem a lot like the USAIr Easties. They thought a lot about themsleves too---and look where that got them----RELATIVE SENIORITY. Good day.

I think one of the key points of the hearing is being missed here. What the senator was trying to do by asking about the three major costs of the airline, was to get them to say they were going to reduce capacity. That certainly would result in a lowering of fuel, equipment and labor costs for the combined airline. That would set them up for nice long anti trust discussion and bring forward the conversation about huge job losses.

The only honest response came from the flight attendant representative.

I'm glad Moak wore his stripes because otherwise I wouldn't have known he was a pilot.

On that we can agree! Too bad no one wants or cares about our opinion. Seems to be the opinion of most of the other employees I've encountered lately as well. No one wants to endure the massive amount of near term pain and uncertainty for the hope that eventually we might, possibly, hopefully, maybe, get a stronger company down the road. The more fuel prices go up, the less I trust the company guys at the wheel to keep their pledge to not shrink this thing.

Stevens sure looked more calm, cool and collected than moak. I agree moak is bucking for a mgmt job. I bet within 2 yrs he is the new vp of flt ops at the new global dal. On another note, did you notice the eyebrow twitch/tick and the lisp when he was put on the spot? I wonder if that could be trait of when he is lieing?

That was the most shocking part of the whole thing IMHO.

You got it GL! The failing USAIR got relative seniority vs. liquidation. Now maybe you can explain how NWA is on their last breath and our great savior DAL will come and rescue us.

Hey, that's what JP Morgan or whoever compiled that list stating the likely hood of certain airlines to go BK---NWA was 2nd from the bottom. (above USAir who was most likely to go BK again) Hey, I didn't make it up. But hey, maybe we can come in and clean you guys up. You're welcome.

GL you of all people should know that list was BS. Lets stop the elementary BS, hopefully this week will come with some good news on the joint contract and we can start moving forward. I know you are excited about the Diesel 9 and all but step back and take a deep breath ;)
