Was listening to WSB 750 AM (local ATL talk radio station) in the car this morning when the news caster said Greinstein mentioned at the shareholders meeting that Delta was considering a merger proposal.

Anybody have any reliable info on this?

"I hear tings...." I have heard that NWA might be interested, and of course I have heard the CAL rumors. Who knows? I would like NWA because I feel the route structures would fit perfectly, expcept for a little tweaking---CVG and MEM go bye bye. Then, we would have a great Pacific presence, and Europe/S. America. CAL would be good because we have the same fleet types. I hope we just get through this year....

I would like the merger also, however if the Gov. won't allow USAir and United to merge what makes you think Delta & NWA coming together holds a candle in the wind?

Who the @#$% listens to @#$%-ing AM ?????? For Pete's sake !!!

The only thing AM used to be good for is hosting all the Jesus channels, now, they too have made it to FM and I have gone Sat radio to escape and in a few years, when Hale-Bop comes back I'm catching a ride off this weird planet, I got my black sweats, change and white sneakers ready y'all !!!

( This is not a thread Hijack, This is nota thread Hijack, This is not a thread Hijack )

The UAL/UAIR merger was pre-9/11 when airlines were doing just fine. 2005 is a completely different airline environment and I'm sure the U.S. Government would not interfere with airline mergers at this point. My bet is a DAL/NWA merger and then CAL picks up the pieces that are left by UAL. This would leave CAL/NWA/AMR.

I listened to the entire webcast of the stockholder's meeting this AM. And yes, the subject of merger came up but it wasn't DL/somebody GG mentioned, it was USAir/AWA...and how it would be OK if it removed capacity from the system. He really didn't say much beyond that about mergers...or anything else of value for that matter. This guy has one speech...and I've heard it three times now. Ho hum...

The rep for the guys who put forth the proposals for limiting/reviewing executive management compensation gave the suits a REAL pounding ( I cringed just listening to it ) in his speech...said everything we've all thought about RA, LM, and maybe GG too, and how they got things where they are yet hauled off the big $$$ for themselves while the worker bees took it up the pipe. But, in the preliminary ballot count all three proposals on this matter were defeated by routhly a 3-1 margin. Oh well....

DL/CAL...DL/NWA ??? Heard those rumors 15 years ago. My favorite is still DL/Cathay.

Delta Reviews Merger Proposal
ATLANTA (AP) Delta Air Lines' shareholders heard some encouraging words from chief executive Gerald Grinstein today as they meet at a convention center in College Park. Grinstein told shareholders the Atlanta-based carrier is looking at a merger proposal, but he would not elaborate. He also mentioned an analyst's comments yesterday that the struggling carrier may not be forced into bankruptcy until next year.

Items on the agenda for the annual shareholders meeting include nine proposals. The board proposals include election of nine Delta directors and ratification of the appointment of the company's independent auditor.

Delta also is proposing doubling to 900 million the number of shares of common stock that it is authorized to issue and reducing the par value of the common stock from $1.50 to one cent.

The airline, which is incorporated in Delaware, believes the proposal will give it greater flexibility in using common stock for various corporate purposes because Delaware law permits a company to issue shares only if it receives value equal to at least the par value for the shares.

Delta stock got a much-needed boost yesterday, as an analyst asserted that the struggling carrier may not be in jeopardy of bankruptcy until next year. Shares rose 29 cents, or almost ten percent, to close at $3.30 in trading on the New York Stock Exchange.

Well, that's NOT what I heard. When the word "merger" was spoken, you can bet my ears perked up and I listened intently. He said words to the effect that there was a merger coming up and then went on to talk about USAir/AWA.

His initial comments on this were non-specific which had me puzzled until he mentioned USAir/AWA and the "merger" discussion then revolved ( for a very short time ) around those carriers...not Delta.

Just because some ambulance chasing reporter says it's true, that doesn't make it true.

Will Delta merge with someone ? Who knows. But it was NOT hinted at this AM at the stockholder's meeting. Do you really accept any reporter's version of the "truth" ?

Are you serious? What about USAir/AWA? They have no overlapping routes(hubs). Do NW and DL? CAL and DL do have problems, mainly NYC. But, NW and DAL do not. UAL and USAir had DC as a problem--a monopoly. They stated that one would have to sell a large chunk, and they came up with DC Air. But, the employees nixed that idea. I think the Gov't today would be much more favorable to mergers with conditions, rather than have large liquidations and pi$$ed off employees who vote.

So if Delta did merge with NWA, what would happen to UAL? Nail in the coffin ?

They would merge with CAL I suppose.

And AMR holds its own ?

I think they are big enough and have enough cash. Maybe Alaska will be thrown in there. That one is a guess.

Alaska is buying Delta, Northwest and CAL. The new name will be Bojangles Air...News @ 11

No doubt we are all in for some more interesting times. Massive concessions, followed by mergers and seniority integration.

just to make it interesting I heard Airtran was not merging but buying the big D

have fun with this

Nice! Maybe I can stay in ATL and not have to fly DC-9s in MSP in the cold winter! (Although I would do that in a heartbeat.....)(Please merge DL and NW together, please!)

Forget that! Lets merge with CAL. I don't want a bunch of senior NWA pilots bidding out of MSP or DTW and moving to ATL.

Merge...........did you say merge?.............Nope. You had your chance in '98. We are waiting for you to file and we will pull a Delta and only take the aircraft we want and that will fit CAL. The 737(no -200), 757 and 767. MD-80's and MD-11's are parked. Time to bid Boeing at DAL.   :p
