these cvrs are so sad. I think I need to make myself stop reading them and go for a stiff drink.
I can't imagine leaving the world like that.
Thanks for the lead, this is pretty interesting stuff...don't get too bummed out, just learn from other peoples mistakes.

The one I found kind of interesting was King 56...a C130 fuel starvation crash

Here is a link to a paper done on the crash and lawsuit filed against the government contractors that built the plane...

Thanks
I should have mentioned that the stiff drink would not have been my first of the evening... "go for another stiff drink" would have been more appropo
Having trouble with the idea of knowing in advance, well 30-60 seconds that I am going to die (should it happen to me). Well, I guess most people who die, of all causes, have no warning whatsoever... people in the hospital may have months of notice.
Also, the last few moments may be recorded which sucks. Shouting at each other, 'what did you do?' 'power, power' 'pull up, pull!' is almost nauseating to me.
Yeah, I'll get over the thought I guess.

I realize that in some cases there are lessons to be learned from these tapes. However, in many cases it's "but for the grace of God go I". I find it very hard to read those transcripts or listen to those recordings. It makes me feel like some sort of aeronautical voyeur - an uninvited guest at what is one of a person's most personally intimate events.

The best recording I have listened to was when a DC-9 crashed on take-off because the slats where not deployed. Before take-off, the pilots where discussing why the CVR was used to help determine the cause of an accident. During that conversation, the co-pilot was recorded by the CVR hitting on the F/A and he said wouldn't it be ashame if the last words my wife hears after a crash is me hitting on you. Darn if they didn't crash.

2350:35 PF "And then point straight for the ground"

End of recording

From the GP Express BE-99.
What was that thread that was just going about unapproved aerobatics?

Yea, that is bizzare.

Yea, as a F/O I would've had to have just gotten up and left that airplane - that bad karma will get you everytime!

I also use to fly with a Captain that everytime he landed and we shut the engines down, he'd boldy remark: "Looks like we cheated death one more time!" That statement never sat real well with me, no matter how many times I've heard it!

This all reminds me of one of my favorite quotes, by the great Charles Lindbergh:

"Any coward can sit in his home and criticize a pilot for flying into a mountain in a fog. But I would rather, by far, die on a mountainside than in bed. What kind of man would live where there is no daring? And is life so dear that we should blame men for dying in adventure? Is there a better way to die?"
