A NEWHIRE hired tomorrow will only have 400 people below him at the beginning of 2008, if we only get the 35 airplanes promised from the LOA.

So that's about 3 years atleast, and the NEWHIRE would be 1800 out of 2200 pilots.

LONG UPGRADES are just normal as a company gets LARGE. Look at MAJOR airline upgrades. People used to upgrade in 3 years or less because companies were DOUBLING in size every few years. Those days are over for now even for the regionals. Even MESA and CHQ will see long upgrade times soon as their companies become large. It's just inevitable.

Don't come to Comair to become a quick Captain. Come to Comair because it's a great company, is a great place to work, and has a great pilot group that will take care of you. Newhires today need to expect to be an FO for 7-8 years is my guess. If they upgrade faster they should just be thankful.

They told us down at the academy that it would be only a couple of years to upgrade and then to the majors! Are you saying that they decieved us?

INCOMING!!! Flamebait...LOL

Dude, for someone who professes to be at DCA, you sure seem to have a vast amount of knowledge about what occurs in ABX's sims and their CAT II status.

Back to regularly scheduled posting...

I'm just well versed on the goings on in the industy. They give us that knowledge at Riddle and at the Academy.

Comair is a major!! See, you have attained your dream and you didn't even know it.

Whatever dude - nice try. Your goal is to post flamebait and arrogantly boast that only you will ever make it to the majors, wait, I mean UPS.

Actually, I think he was trying to inject a little humor. I guess it wouldn't be so funny to an academy guy who forked out a ton of money only to realize PIC time might not come until the next decade.

That's about 3,679,200 minutes to upgrade, for those who don't like to think

about upgrade in 7 years.

My humble opinion -- anyone who decides to join this industry must come in eyes WIDE open. There's only one thing certain about a career in aviation:

Nothing is certain.

And I'm not saying that as a joke; it's true -- nothing is certain and you have to carefully consider everything that is being said here and anywhere else. How long will it take you to upgrade at Comair if you come here tomorrow? Let's look at a couple scenarios:

1. Delta continues to fail and they are unable to present Comair as a viable entity for sale before bankruptcy. All projected growth ceases: you never upgrade; you never get hired.

2. Delta decides that, to compete with Southwest, JetBlue, Air Tran and others, it must continue to expand Comair's operations, purchasing numerous ERJ-170s & 190s to replace dated MD-80s and 737s. Scope relief is expanded, JFK becomes a base of 500 crews to sustain competitive growth on the eastern corridor: you are on reserve for one month, can bid weekends off within one year and begin your upgrade training within two years.

Anyone who tells you that either one of these scenarios is accurate or that neither one is possible is blowing smoke up your #@$% because no one really knows for sure what is going to happen. We spend our lives speculating about the future because we have nothing better to do with our time but we are lousy predictors of our own destinys. No one could have predicted after 9/11 that we would have over 2000 pilots in 2005.

I agree with those who advise you to come to Comair because it is a quality place to work and a good place to advance (or even possibly finish) your career. The fact is, we are a major airline and, for the most part, we conduct ourselves that way. If you run somewhere for a quick upgrade, you may be dissappointed at the cost vis-a-vis your quality of life, and you may find that the "major airline" you were counting on joining may no longer be an attractive fit for your future.

How old are you? 22? 25? How many years do you have until mandatory retirement? 35? More? My advise is to just relax. Appreciate the experiences you're having right now and try to enjoy yourself -- you'll be dealing with the b.s. of flying the line soon enough.

Good luck.
