I just didn't realize there was large market for Portland to Amsterdam, that's all.

NWA gets quite a bit of feed in PDX via its codeshares with Alaska and Horizon. PDX-NRT has reportedly been a moneymaker since starting a few years ago, and Portland has a lot of business links with Europe as well. NW already flies SEA-AMS so PDX is a natural next step, since KLM already flies SFO-AMS and LAX-AMS.
