Capt. Leja Noe (MAG), ALPA Training Council chair and Mesa MEC Central Air Safety chair, moderated a panel on the future of airline pilot hiring and training. With a predicted global pilot shortage coming but the FAA expected to issue higher minimum flight time for entry-level airline first officers next year, various organizations and government agencies are scrambling to find the best ways to recruit, screen, train, and retain the best possible airline pilots.

Here's a novel idea...pay all airline pilots (including Regional and 1st year guys) a liveable wage. I sense another "good deal" coming our way from ALPA just like age 65.
 
No shortage of pilots, just a shortage of pilots willing to work for what many are paying.
 
MPL would be a good start. ALPA needs to get a jump on this and set up the foundation early. Could be an excellent program if done right and a way to mitigate the looming shortage.

:mad: Grrrr! Mesa, for the longest time, had a low-time quickie program affiliated with a community college in New Mexico. Those pilots weren't able to upgrade when their seniority could hold it because they lacked the requisite experience and total time. For every 2000+ hour new-hire pilot, there were several 250 hour wide-eyed wonders just barely hangin on to the tail.
The program is now defunct as the company shrinks due to some, ummmm, unfortunate "continuing problems."
