According to ALPA's website, there are 5911 members on furlough as of 9-27 (including me). I've heard and read that there are 10,000 pilots looking for work.

How long until things look up in the employment arena?

Is the job market really that bad? I'm not actively looking for a flying job, I assume many others are not. It seems like alot of people on here are getting jobs (although maybe not good paying jobs)

Is Duane Woerth going to allow management to whipsaw and regionalize all the pay scales to where flying is not a viable career any more?

p.s., I was furloughed from a regional while trying to make a career change. My old job, now my current job pays pretty well (although not major airline captain wages) and I'm not likely to go back unless things make a dramatic turnaround.

IMHO, the airlines are in a spiral to cut costs: which means mainline jobs are being replaced by regionals. Not only are the discounters forcing down prices and payscales (the airline equivalent of Wal-Mart), but majors with large numbers of RJ's are doing better than those with few RJ's - so it is a vicious cycle to either get more RJ's are go out of business. Not much ALPA can do about this - its capitalism at work. Unfortunately for all of us, I honestly don't see a lot of those mainline jobs ever coming back.....
