Not to flame or anything, but alot of those european pilots are the kind that spend 150k+ to get type ratings and get hired on with 300hrs into the right seat.... good thing there are always two pilots up there.....
 
Wow...that brings back memories of flight instructing. On a much smaller scale of course.:)

I have a friend who is an FO on the A3huge for Aer Lingus. At 251 hours he was in the right seat of a 737, twelve years later he's bidding a command slot on the A3tiny.

Cost of training: Zero.
