There is a group currently looking for CRJ ferry pilots. A buddy of mine that works for a huge company, cant tell you the name, only the initials, G E, refered me to.
Filled in their forms and now, a year later got an e mail from them looking for photocopies of my passport, tickets, etc.
After requesting more info, just got an e mail saying they pay $500 a day to any bank for each days work, deadheading or flying.
Another letter told of aproximately 100 repo flights being required.

If you are a CRJ Cap, would you consider doing this work?
Lets say it wont put you over any time limits.

Thanks in advance for real answers, and of course, this is FI< so I give it one page or less prior to becoming a pissing match!

Yeah, I'd do it. How bout a PM with the web site?

would be kinda fun to repo your own airline's planes!

500$ a day? I could make that picking up some open time at my hometown airline. Sounds to be on the cheap side. This wouldnt be in preperation for some kind of job action would it?

Trip, I talked to the manager who sets these flights up, and told him the very same thing.
He was selling the fact they stay in internation airline crew hotels (My mind went straight to the Holiday Inn!) (Snoop dog singing)
Also asked about what type of dispatch they use.
Was told the contract gets re negotiated in the fall and they may ask for more money per day.
Guy trying to sell me on this told me they use Jepp for planning but in most cases, pilots like to do their own flight planning. Guess Im a lazy airline pilot, prefer a dispatcher does it and I just show up, review it and fly it!
Was encouraged to get others to send in their applications, people I would like to fly with, due to the nature of our days off, etc.

As for prep for job action, I dont think so. These planes are parked and not being used currently..per the guy! Good question, I wouldnt want to touch it if that were the case.

No I would not do it for $500.00 a day. The going contract rate for a Challenger or Gulfstream pilot is $1200.00 a day. Ferrying an airplane is not as easy as it sounds.

I would agree. I am used to the comfort level a 121 environment supplies with dispatch, MX, etc. I could forsee all types of conformity issues with paperwork and such. That said, for enough money....

I regularly ferry large turboprop aircraft across the North Atlantic and Pacific at USD800 per day plus expenses. Travel is business and hotels are same. All planning and overflight approvals are done under contract with the employer by Universal. I believe that this rate is a bit low.

Just curious- all the discussion so far seems to be directed toward CAs.. Is the $500/day only for CAs? How about the F/O seat? (CRJ is min. crew = 2 last time I checked)
..

Last I was called for these, for a crj, it was $1500 per day domestic and way more for international...it is per pilot and they usually don't care if you are typed for the right seat, although most guys are. Depends on whose on the call list...

Yes, you do have to do all your own flight planning and you do see things that do not work on the sqwawk list (like an MEL) (it is a Ferry Permit). Most of these have sat for a long time and anyone who knows airplanes knows they break more sitting than flying.

It's not for everyone and it can be easy money (depending on what's not operating) BUT do not fall into the trap that it's Tax Free...You always get a 10-99 at the end of the year. THE MAN will always get his money!!!

As far as what they are paying, there is a lot of guys typed (and /or current) on the thing and are unemployed and desperate (wanting to feed family) so that might be the reason for the lower pay. Sounds like someone is trying to take advantage of pilots again. Imagine that!

Let's see, I fly 15 days/month now...if I made $500/day ferrying the same number of days I would make $7500. That's a lot more than I make now, sign me up. Or does that make me a whore since others get more?

*Disclaimer: Please do not fail to recognize the sarcasm in this post

not enough pay

500 a day is way too low, pick up some open time at home. much easier less risk. 1000 a day is getting closer to making it worth while. simple math your pay vs hours on duty.

CRJ is MINIMUM $1000 per day. DO NOT DO IT LESS THAN THAT. $500 is ridiculous. I don't care how desperate you are. As said before, it is a lot more work than 121, AND this is BEFORE TAX.

If you do it for $500, you might as well do it for free, and not worry with the tax anyhow. Unbelievable. Don't lower the bar.

MAG(mesa) has had a few guys repo some aircraft, outside of the list... If there is any way to get 1900 guys pissed off at you faster than this, I would like to see it...

Not saying that these repo's are going to be airline flying or stuff that is under contract, but beware... Big JO has a lot of friends at GE, I wouldnt put it past him to tell people one thing and do another...
