CrewPASS is an initiative that verifies flight crew identity through biometrics, enhancing security and expediting the screening process for all travelers.
"CrewPASS is an excellent example of public-private partnership that expedites travel for flight crews, while increasing security standards," said John Sammon, assistant administrator, TSA.
"Working together, TSA, ALPA, ARINC and others made CrewPASS a success in its test phase, and soon it will be possible to put it in place at airports nationwide," said ALPA President Capt. John Prater. "As a result, the identity of U.S. pilots will be positively verified and crewmembers will be expedited through security screening checkpoints."
http://forums.flightinfo.com/#d Eligible flight deck crewmembers will enter the secure area via the exit lane of the security checkpoint after presenting their airline-issued identification and another form of ID to Transportation Security Officers (TSOs). An approved biometric will also be used to enhance identity verification. TSOs will check these credentials against the Cockpit Access Security System (CASS) database, which includes a picture and other information to verify the individual's employment status.
Flight deck crewmembers who utilize this program will also be subject to random screening, observation by behavior detection officers and other layers of security.

Two, no smiles may be seen unless everyone is agreeing with a complaining captain. Three, a crew member must become rude and defensive when asked to remove their ID from its plastic case, even if their ID is not in a plastic case. Too much compliance with TSA instructions will require additional screening.

Hopefully they will speed it up. I have used it a bunch of times and the computer either didn't work or it was so slow, the flight attendants were through security first. The only nice thing was not having to take apart your bags

I commute out of PIT and have used it every week since it started. The only time it's ever taken longer than the security line is if there's a line of pilots waiting. Usually I'm the 1st or only guy there and takes less than 45 seconds.

Now that's funny. 8 YEARS LATER were cheering ALPAs success at this. (it still isn't in my airport.) What's troubling is how low our expectations have become for ALPA

I hope the powers that be improve the scanners. Those things don't work that well from what I have seen. Of course, they are pretty old.

We have to be fingerprinted before we can get our IDs as new-hires now, so I don't think it'd be that much more difficult to implement this for crewpass

I overnight in CAE a lot. Our FA’s usually beat us through even if we are first. Of course there are rarely more than 5 or so passengers in line there in CAE. I usually use the regular line unless there is more than five in it because it is faster than crew pass.

I would much rather go through the CrewPass line because I don't have to take my laptop out or separate all my stuff.

Usually I have to wait for a TSA agent to come over to the where the laptop is... no big deal really.

I asked them in CAE once about this. I was told that the laptop they use for Crewpass ran through the airports' free wireless, and that system goes down on a regular basis. Apparently the airport wasn't interested in setting up a hardline for this.

I read that the uniform was required for the trial period. I haven't seen anything, yes or no about whether wearing a uniform will be required once it gets fully implemented.

I believe that the TSA goon comparing the photo in CASS and your passport qualifies as the "biometric component".
