I am looking for a good crew luggage. I would like something that would handle a 4 day trip.
Does anyone out there know a web site that I might look up?

I'm sure that there are probably others as well. I would suggest that you also check in some better department stores, they sometimes carry brands like travel pro, and they occasionally put it on sale.

Go with a Purdy Neat bag. I've had 2 Travelpro's in the past and neither lasted more than 2 years. Purdy Neat bags are sturdier, but cost a little more. The stopoverstore carries them and I believe they have their own website, as well.

Add me to the list of the Pudy Neat Stuff Fan Club. Pay the money now and you'll be happy. And pay a little extra for the duffel that snaps to it. It's great for longer trips and wet raincoats. I think the website Nigel offered gives a new hire discount if you ask.
I am a previous samsonite and travelpro owner.

No one can argue with PNS bags; but I'll offer this as an alternative.....

I have a Tumi rollerboard and the thing is bloody great and the company is better....Now, maybe PNS does this, too, but get this....

If you have something wrong with your Tumi, you call them up and they send you a loner......You pop yours in the box the loaner came in and send it back to be fixed. I've sent mine back for wheels, a handle, and all kinds of stuff over the MANY years I've owned the thing and it has always come back promptly with only one charge (that was for the handle that I broke on an escalator).....

This is one of the best companies I have dealt with on anything and cannot recommend them more highly.....

One more vote for Purdy Neat. I have an older model with the zipper around the very perimeter of the front face. I had to send it back because to this day I still think the rampies loaded 1200#'s of cargo on top of it resulting in the zipper being trashed (warranteed). I do believe the new models have the zipper set inn a couple of inches to aleviate that problem. Anyway, well worth the money.

Don't get luggage with wimpwheels. You wind up looking like a stewardess when you drag your suitcase around on little wheels. Aren't you strong enough to carry it?

purdy neat stuff bag all the way.
I've had mine for about 6 months now, it s awesome. you can really fill it up for a 4 day and it still has room. mine was about 239.00 including shipping and my name embroidered on the handle.

Add my voice to the chorus for PNT. Bought my first one in 1993. Had it back to the company a couple of years ago for replacement of the bottom pan (careless operation over airport curbs), main zipper replacement, replacement of numerous zipper pulls, the business card holder on the back, internal cinch straps, and the back pocket zipper. All were caused solely by aggressive use. Total cost for repairs and shipping - $35. Every item except the bottom pan was replaced under warranty. Total time from when I sent it to STL until I got it back - eight days.

I bought one of the international bags (27") from the MSP Stop Over Store while the old one was being repaired for long trips and for the wife to use when we travel together.

Suggestions:

Buy the metal frame square top bag. This is the sturdiest one - the classic. I used to stand on it to put the engine plugs in the Dash-8 at night (being vertically challenged). Nearly everyone I know who bought the carbonate frame version has not been happy with it. There have been several failures and it torques under the strain of a flight bag and computer bag.

The new stainless steel handle appears very solid.

The new inset main zipper should make for much less exposure to damage versus the old version.

Unless you carry a ton of stuff on overnights or are away from home for more than five days, get the regular (23") size. The bigger one get you into trouble when jump seating due to its size. I rarely have difficulty getting enough stuff in the 23" bag including running shoes and work out clothes.

If you have access to the Stop Over Stores in MSP or DTW, buy it there (or mail order it to save the tax). If you need warranty work done on the bag they will give you a loaner bag while yours is being fixed.

I decided a long time ago that I wanted a bag to keep, instead of buying disposable ones every eighteen months or so.

PNT

If you get the 23" I would also suggest you get the Duffel Bag that clips on the the bag, it give you the extra room for running shoes, etc. In the winter when Jeans and sweatshirts bulk up you bag, the duffel bag is nice!

njcapt,

Would you have an email address for the Stop Over? If not where at the airport would they be located.

Stopoverstore.com is the online catalog website. They have stores in MSP and DTW terminals. However, I don't know if the store in DTW is in the new terminal or not(I'm based in MSP). The store in MSP is on the F concourse, on the ground floor.

I'm surprised no one mentioned Briggs and Riley. They're an offshoot of Tumi. These bags are around $200 at Travel 2000 and come with a lifetime warranty against airline damage. People trade in these bags every year for the tiniest scuffs.
You can fit everything you need in it and it fits perfectly in a overhead. The wheels are great too... They're sturdy and stealthy (they don't sound like a machine gun when you go over tiles). I've had my bag for two years and the thing has survived some of the nastiest rampers.

c141fe,
Here's a website that has the bags. http://www.luggageman.com/website/briggs/briggs.html
There's a bunch of stores that carry it. The return policy is pretty much "no questions asked", so I would buy it at a local store just in case you ever want to trade it in for a new one. I'm not sure if stores that you didn't buy it from would trade it in for you, although they might.
21" bags are pretty much the standard size if you want to fit it in an overhead. Hope this helps.

When I flew the crj, we used to have that little tiny space right behind the cockpit door to stow our bags. It was always a b*tch to get my pns/travelpro/costcospecial into it.

Now, the guys who had the hard sided samsonites just threw theirs in. It seemed to fit a whole lot easier. If I was still flying the crj I would have one. It probably carries 4 days max worth of clothes.

My vote is for the hard-sided samsonite.

bebop,

Was it the 23in or 27 in. Reason why I am asking this is going to be my first winter up north and wanted to know if the 23 in would hold everything on a 4 day including a jacket.

I did the LL Bean route. I was the same cost as the travelpro but after 2 years of dargging the thing around it needed to be replaced. I called LL Bean and said I needed a new one due to tears and a recent broken handle oops! $20 bucks in shipping it back and PRESTO! a new LL Bean rolling luggage monogrammed even for free.

L.L. Bean

Every bag I've used since high school has been an L.L. Bean...their quality and customer service are priceless!

Over $200 for a bag! Three years ago I bought a roller board at K-Mart for $59.95 with a 10 year replacement warranty. Last January I took it back to the local K-mart because the bearings in the wheels were wearing out and they gave me a brand new bag without having to wait for repairs and, it has a 10 year replacement warranty. Hmm! What could I do with the extra $170 that a lot of people are willing to spend on a bag that they occasionally have to send away for repairs. Think about it. $59.95 every 10 years, plus I get a new bag every once in a while and never have to wait for repairs. I also haven't spent a lot of money.

Ahhh, a bag from China, legendary for luggage manufaturing. If you want a Yugo, fine, personally I prefer a Cadilac. It's all about quality and the ability to stand up to years of CONSTANT use and abuse. I will pay $200+ gladly for the low hassle factor of PNS bags, it's my money and I will spend it as I wish.

PNS has got my vote!

After going for Samsonite and lasting about 9 months before Delta tore it all up, yes, sorry, both of my Samsonite have been destroyed by Delta. Anyway, after that I bought a PNS bag and had it for 2 years before it needed a tune up, the foam handle went and one of the zippers was ripped up, again by Delta. I sent it in to PNS, my cost, and they said it was still under warranty, Woohoo! I got it back 2 weeks later like new. They even installed some new zipper covers the new bags are coming out with and shipped it back to me. I have the carryon size that holds enough for 2 weeks for myself and you don't have to check it because it fits in bin!

Disclaimer: Don't mean to rag on Delta but it has been my luck that my bags always got a beating on them.;)
