Guys, I heard airline crewmembers on personal trips are often able to obtain the same discounted rate that is offered to airlines at some hotels. Anyone know if this is true? If its the case, do the discounts usually only apply if its your airline's hotel, or any airline's? And, how do you go about getting it? Thanks...

I've done it a few times. Just call and ask if they have a crew rate. I'll even tell them it's for personal travel, and they don't care. Some places have it, some don't. I’ve stayed in Boston and ORD at fairly nice places for $50.

bargain with them..nothing is certain, there are no rules but anything is fair game. I one time got a crew rate for just my parents at a hotel on the other side of town from the airport....and the only connection was that the hotel name was the same.

Absolutely it works. If they don't have a crew rate ask them for a travel industry discount. Usually good for 10-25% off. Usually want to see ID upon check in.
